  1. This is simple to do in Illustrator. You want to use the "Appearance" panel and simply add a second fill. You can then fill that with a simple black and white gradient. Finally, set the transfer mode (Color Burn in this example) and you are good to go. Note: you can change the transfer mode by clicking the "opacity" link under the gradient fill. Here's a screenshot for reference: https://www.dropbox.com/s/466h9nqdwm1ivyh/Screenshot%202015-10-30%2014.16.46.png?dl=0 The Appearance panel is very powerful and I've noticed over the years that most people don't take advantage of it.... Let me know if you have any questions. Hope that helps, -Joe
  2. I use that setup but with only 1 Thunderbolt display... sometimes I leave the macbook open and use it as a second display. I use AE/C4D all the time and don't notice any gfx loss. I think adding a second monitor wouldn't affect it much, but am not sure.
  3. I'm on dribbble and have a few invites. If you follow and msg me on dribbble, I'll draft you... https://dribbble.com/joeski
  4. I had been using Prosite from behance for the past 2-3 years, but just switched over to SquareSpace a week or two ago. SS is much easier to update/customize and all their themes are 'responsive' and look great on any device. SS and Vimeo is a great combination...
  5. Hi Guys, I thought some of you might find this useful. Proggle is a free script that simplifies how you work with the Protection Tag in C4D, primarily with cameras. In this short video, I'll show you my basic setup and how to use it. Let me know if you have any questions. https://vimeo.com/121903350 thanks, Joe PS: this is the first "tutorial/tip" video I've ever done. Hope I didn't butcher it up too badly and it's of some help.

    3D Mouse

I've had a Spacemouse Navigator for the last several years and love it. It takes a short time to get used to, but once you do, you can simply imagine a spot in your scene and magically navigate there precisely as if you were in a helicopter. Well worth it and works great in conjunction with a Wacom tablet.
  7. Amazing job, thanks for taking the time! You truly are a natural for these...
  8. Yes, as Simon mentioned, you need the ArtSmart plugin. It should work perfectly for this.
  9. Well, Apple uncharacteristically announced that new mac pros are coming in 2013.... http://www.forbes.com/sites/connieguglielmo/2012/06/12/apple-says-new-models-designs-for-imac-mac-pro-in-works-due-in-2013/?partner=yahootix
  10. check out MediaSIlo. They are launching a new version in a couple of weeks and that is geared towards general cloud based asset management. http://www.mediasilo.com/

    Solo

Solo does look nice. I, too, was using the now dead BillingManager, and was forced to quickly find a new solution to replace it. I went with http://www.getharvest.com/ and like it.... but it's not free like BM was.
  12. Wow, great presentatio, very inspiring! Thanks for taking the time to share your some of your techniques and insight. There must be a lot of people trying to watch it, Cineversity is at a crawl. -Joe
  13. Have you seen this: http://adamswaab.wordpress.com/category/3d...ender-elements/
  14. One more thing... when I first switched over to the pen, what I initially missed most was a scrollwheel. I picked up a Powermate and it works great, using it with my left hand while the pen is in my right. hope that helps...
  15. I also have to chime and recommend the wacom tablet. I had one for years only using it for some photoshop tasks, but a couple of years ago I switched over to using it 100% of the time and have never looked back. Now, on the rare occasion I have to use a mouse, it becomes very obvious how good the pen is. Like someone already mentioned, it takes a few weeks to get used to, but once you do, it really is great.

    Firefox 3.0

Google's Toolbar addon for FF adds a nice autofill feature along with some others... you might want to check it out: http://www.google.com/tools/firefox/toolba...l/en/index.html
  19. Give these guys a look: MediaSilo MediaSilo is much more robust, converts files automatically for web preview and is a video content management system on top of a collaboration platform.
  20. I used to have two 22" screens, but bought a single 30" last spring and really love it. Definitely a personal preference, but a single 30" is pretty sweet... -Joe
  21. I discovered this sweet little AI script that will round the corners of selected points only. For example, you could take a square and have it round only 2 of the 4 corners. Granted its not non destructive, but I always have to expand the appearance anyway to import into c4d, so I can certainly live with that. I've often wondered why AI doesn't have this natively. here's the script: http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/exchange/inde...p;extid=1045709 Works great in AI CS3 here on a mac for me... Huge time saver! Toss it in your ai scripts folder for easy access. hth, Joe
  22. Perfect, thank you!! Don't think I would have got that I my own. And I even checked the manual for icons, etc before coming here!
  23. I have a quick AE question. The past few QT movies i've imported into AE, the icons have something added to their lower right in the project window. Please see the circled area of my attachement: What does this icon mean exactly... can't seem to figure it out. At first I thought it was an alpha channel, but others in the project have alphas with a normal QT icon. thanks! -Joe
  24. I had put off learning Flash for a long time, but finally started using it over a year ago. At first it sucked, flash's timeline in comparison to AE or C4D is totally different and is lacking... Very frustrating. But, once you get in there and get the hang of the basic concepts its not all that bad. I only know very basic AS and can get by using behaviors and components most of the time or recycled code from other projects. And now that CS3 imports .psd with layer info and text intact, it's SO much nicer to use. Give a try, once you get used to having to setup up movieclips for anything animated and creating motion tweens, it ain't all that bad.
  25. What I would really love to see is for Cinema4D to be able to paste paths from Illustrator via the clipboard. This would ease the pain of having to save out an .ai file in v8 format just so C4D can read it. Most of the time I only need a path or two from AI and being able to copy and paste it would be pretty sweet. my 2¢ -Joe
