  1. Hi I was wondering if there was a way to save a CS4 format After effects file for After Effects CS3?
  2. I'm creating my first project that isn't the standard NTSC .9 pixel aspect ratio, instead its the widescreen 1.2 In my workspace, if I work with the pixel aspect ratio correction button off then everything is squished. But if I work with it on then everything has really jagged edges. I was wondering if there was a way to view my project while I'm working on it so that it wasn't squished and doesn't have the jagged edges? I don't know if this is a noob question, but I've never worked in an aspect ratio other than the .9, so any help and/or advice would be appreciated. -Thanks
  3. Alrighty, so I want to put this 3D window animation into a 3D room build. Unfortunately I was given these video files and don't have the original 3D files otherwise this wouldn't be such an issue. http://netxstudios.wmsvc.vitalstreamcdn.co..._gold/test1.wmv I tried motracking the position/scale/rotation of the room at certain points but due to everything building and moving the number of stable points is rather limited. And at the end when I have to have the room zoom in with the window I have similar problems. I was hoping someone here would have some suggestions for some things I could try so this will look better.
  4. Ok, so I want to transform this 3D text which I fragmented into smaller pieces into particles so I can use deflector space warps and such. But, alas, I can't seem to get it to work with pflow. I don't know if its my settings or if what I am trying to do can't be done the way I currently have my scene set up. I want all my pieces to look like they currently do, but to just register as particles instead of regular geometry. If anyone has any suggestions, it would be awesome. -Thank You. (3DS Max is what I'm using, by the way)
  5. Hello! So I want to create 3D text falling and hitting the ground so hard that the ground cracks under it. I was planning on doing this with reactor. I was hoping that someone could offer some advice and/or resources into how to accomplish this. Also-does anyone know of a chart that has physical properties (mass, friction, elasticity) for common objects so that I might save on the trial and error time during simulations. -Thanks a Bunch.
  6. Thanks for all the advice, I'll definitely try the 100% self illuminated object above what is reflecting. Should I use standard lighting or light tracer, radiosity, or something else? In another forum someone suggested using the default mental ray paint material and then just tweeking it to fit my needs. So I am also trying that. -Thanks Again.
  7. Ok so I have another 3DS Max question. (and thank you, to all who gave previous advice. It was all useful) I want to achieve a glossy look on a cell phone that I am modeling, similar to: http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj218/danzums/example.jpg The thing is I don't really know how to set it up. I've tried a few things and they didn't really come close to achieving this look. And since I don't have v-ray or brazil, I would like to know how to set it up with either mental ray or scanline. Which type of lighting is required? If you could recommend any resources, or have any advice it would be greatly appreciated. -Thanks so much.
  8. Yes, I imported from AI. I added more points and rendered at 2x the resolution and that seemed to clear up the problem. -Thanks :H
  9. http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj218/d...ias_example.png The aliasing issues arise around the top part of the logo element. But I'll try rendering it at 2x resolution. The image is uncompressed so the aliasing isn't due to that and I see it both on a computer monitor and tv screen.
  10. I have a logo in 3D that animates, but the problem is that there isn't enough anti-aliasing going on. I don't really know how to turn up the settings and was hoping someone could give me some advice. To make sure that it isn't an issue I would like to not see aliasing even if I view the image at twice its size. The final output needs to be 720x486 so I don't know if you can do that. Any Suggestions? -thanks
  11. How do I increase the anti-aliasing in max? I can't seem to find the settings. -also, thank you, to everyone who has given me suggestions so far. Saving it out as a targa with 32bit didn't solve the problem or even as a png 48bit. I took a frame of the alpha channel into photoshop and decreased it by one pixel but then I ended up with really jagged edges. When I composite it in AE it isn't as noticeable if the background is either really dark or really bright. Its just that one section with the blue ribbon that it becomes more apparent. Thanks again for all the tips.

You can see a thin dark line around the 3D logo element and I don't know how to get rid of it. I've tried using the matte choker is AE but that leaves me with an object that has really jagged edges or an object that is smaller than the original due to its edges being squeezed. In 3DS Max I have tried rendering it a few different ways: different color background, in channels, and adjusting the material properties.
