  1. In my specific situation there's no contract. I know them since a long time ago. I created the concept, design, animation and 3D modelling for this piece. It's a long sales video with plenty of complex animations of product shots and type animation over backgrounds I modelled and animated in Cinema. It was my way of making an otherwise boring presentation visually interesting. Product shots and text were revised to death, did several different versions of it, the end client loves it. I'm sure that the company that hired me initially will use my files several more times as a template for future projects, undercutting me. The producer asked me for a price so they know it's the right thing to do. Now, how would you guys calculate this price? It took me roughly 90 hours to complete it.
  2. I'm going through this situation right now and after reading lots of posts all over motion graphics forums I still don't know how much to charge the client for the project files. Some suggested charge them the total amount of hours for the project using a $150/h rate but it feels like too much to me. If I put 90 hours in this project that would be $13500.- Others suggested charging 30% of the total cost of the project. Now it's too little. What to do?
  3. Thanks so much for the update Chris. AutoCam looks like a work of art and it's the main reason I'm dreaming about getting to use the new CSTools. Animating a camera in Cinema with the ethernal bumps and overshoots is a PITA, and no matter how hard I try and refine the movements, I'm never happy with the results. The way curves and keyframing work in Cinema makes almost no sense to me, and I've been using it professionally since version 8. I'm pretty sure that if anybody is going to make it work as it should, it's you Chris. Looking forward to it. Thanks for your hard work.
  4. Hi Chris, I've been trying to track the release of CSTools 2012 but I can't find any info anywhere. I'm sorry if this was already discussed, can you give us an update?
  5. On the stalling renders I know that the latest update fixes that issue, make sure you're running it.
  6. From the pictures it looks non-glossy. Can you confirm this?
  7. Apple displays are not an option for me anymore. What's with that silly mirror-like reflectiveness? How am I suppossed to work when all I see onscreen if there's just a little bit of daylight is myself and the room? Dell monitors are great. I don't know if they are currently offering any non-reflective models though. I will be needing one soon.
  8. By looking at 1:17 it seems to me like they're going to fail miserably.
  9. Great tip AromaKat, thanks. At least it gives me some control over my own videos.
  10. I have a plus account too and I'm really happy with the service. I'd just wish I could set videos to autoplay. For me, clicking on a video implies I want to watch it, I don't see the need for the extra click to make it play. Some people at Vimeo surely like it that way, I'd just appreciate the option to set it up the way I like it.
  11. It's a known bug and I don't think there is any workaround for it. I hope I'm wrong though...
  12. I think a lot of people have great ideas to reduce healthcare costs. The problem is we'll have to wait till 2012.
  13. I'm an Apple hater. Don't like the company, their policies or their CEO. But I wouldn't touch a PC to do my job if they offered me double the rate. However, the only real advantage of Macs is you can just buy a MacPro with two internal hard drives and boot into Windows if you want. Best of both worlds.
  14. There's no doubt that healthcare was a mess long before this administration and there are countless examples why. I believe that part of the anger of most people with Obamacare -and its dismal poll numbers- comes from the huge disappointment of wasting a great chance to fix the system for once and for all. Let's leave it at that. My posts are just common sense stuff that's been around for years. I'm glad if Glenn Beck has been waking up people to old ideas. I still think his agenda has a sinister side to it. As a freelancer I can only hope that my state fights the unconstitutional mandate in the HC law to begin with. Raising rates to clients who at the same time will see their own HC costs skyrocket doesn't sound very attractive to me.
