  4. I've looked into something like this in the past... the best I came up with is the "email notification after render" script and even setting it up as a text message notification to my cellphone.
  5. maybe try going to file>project settings and check "Match legacy After Effects QuickTime Gamma Adjustments"? I usually have luck with that.

It's called "active shutter" I'm sure if it's what you're looking for but I find it very helpful... it let's use interactively adjust the comps shutter with a slider to find the motion blur you're looking for.
  7. yep, object buffers are the way to go and here's a great tutorial that explains how to set up your scene: http://www.cineversity.com/tutorials/lesson.asp?tid=1183 you'll probably have to set up an account (it's free) if you don't already have one.
