    getting motion graphics work
  1. what if you want it to have a 3D effect..say the image is transparent and there are other elements behind it or in front of it as it's panning? What about those motion graphic pieces where it's one camera pan through the entire animation and different elements are constantly animating in 3D space as the camera moves?
  2. LOL...actually it will be played on a jumbotron at baseball stadium but it is being rendered in HD. Ok just got the ok from the client to take the 3D camera out. Luckily they were cool about it and yes I realize trying a project like this on my mac book pro wasn't the best idea. In the future if I want to use the 3D camera to pan up through the x and y axis along a big wall-like image what would be the best way to go about it? Either way wouldn't the image have to be large so the HD camera has space to travel along it?
  3. Sorry that was a typo.. it's 7680x5200
  4. All I can think of is maybe my computer can't handle the 3D camera. I've animated with the 3D camera before and haven't had this issue.
  5. Ok there's a specific frame that the render keeps failing on. I just realized that 29586 is referring to the 3D X space coordinate on the same point in time as the frame that keeps failing when rendered. This layer is a background pre-comp. The pre-comp dimensions are 77680x5200. In the pre-comp are HD (1920x1080) sized vector designs that are patched together. It's sort like a wallpaper design that the camera is panning along. So what the heck.. the original Ai file is 1920x1080? Not sure what to do next.
  6. Thank for the suggestions problem is I'm not using an Ai or PSD file of that size. Most of them are 1920x1080. That's what's driving me nutz! And if I shrunk the files it'll effect the comps their already in
  7. Hi Everyone, I'm having a lot of issues trying to render an after effects animation off my mac book pro laptop. Any help is greatly appreciated. I have a project I'm working on that's due today and the render keeps failing. When the render fails a window pops up that says... After Effects error: unable to allocate space for a 7720x29586 image buffer. You may be experiencing fragmentation. In the Memory & Mulitprocessing Preferences dialog box, try increasing the RAM to leave for other applications, and selecting the Enable Disk Cache option in the Media $ Disk panel. I had a comp that was built large and I shrink it by at least half. I'm using the 3D camera and unfortuntely a slow computer. I don't know much about adjusting the options in this dialog box as it recommends. However I tried adjusting the settings from one end of the spectrum to the other and still every time I render it fails. If anyone knows what to suggest to get my animation rendering I would really appreciate it considering this project is due in a couple hours. Thank you!
  8. Hi, I have a motion graphics project to bid on for a small ad agency. They want a video to put on their site and possibly use for viral marketing. They really have no idea what they want and basically want me to concept, design, and produce the entire thing. I get the impression they do not know much about motion graphics. They mostly do social media marketing, print, pr, web design, etc. The animation I'd like to propose incorporates motion graphics, minimal 3D, and some photos made into a 3D cutout look. I would be responsible for editing the music and sound effects as well. I'm not sure what their budget is. I'd like to propose $4000 for the project. I'm not sure if that's too much and don't want to loose the job if they think it's too high. Any suggestions or advice is much appreciated. Thanks!
  9. Hello, I am trying to create the stretched text look along a path/spline and cannot find a tutorial on it. Can someone please help!? I'm going for the look of the type in this quicktime..http://www.shilo.tv/#/work/cartoon+network/ - where the text is stretched. Thanks - Maria
  10. Hello, I am a junior level motion graphics artist. Someone that hires in the industry recently advised that taking my demo reel off my site might help me get more work. She said that my work is so diverse in styles from corporate to funky that it functions stronger as individual animations rather than a demo reel. I was actually just going to update my reel when she suggested this. The work I would add to my reel if I decide to update it would be a few short clips of pieces that are around the same quality of work on my site as well as some of the animations on my site that are not on my current demo reel including the Green-LA promo, the IT Heaven piece, and the Dell animation. Do you think I should take the current demo reel off, not update it, and just leave my individual animations on my site? I've also been advised from others that it is a good idea to have a montage reel of work in case the hiring person doesn't have time to view each piece and wants a quick idea of what you can do in less than 1 minute. What do you think? Also if you know of anyone that may need a junior designer/animator please let me know. I am currently available. Thanks in advance for all you help and advice! 11. I'm looking for some freelance motion graphics work on the east coast (the Mass/New Hampshire area) and was wondering what kind of day/hourly rates to charge? I am also wondering if anyone can suggest any companies to look into? I currently live in LA but I'm originally from the east coast and fly out often.
