  • About Me
I'm a freelance designer and filmmaker. I'm doing the former mainly to support the latter, but have a profound love for both. I'm also quite obsessed with music: playing, listening, discussing. I'm an Apple Kool-aid drinker and a Mini Cooper driver. Oh, and I'm a foodie and amateur cook. That doesn't really give you any idea about who I am though, does it? Sorry about that, I'll figure out something witty and clever to put here, until than, "hi, I'm Adam. I'm generally a nice guy."
  1. Oh my goodness, that was such a good day. Mmmmm, sandwiches...
  2. I feel like I just got forum incepted. :-)
  3. Hello- Does anyone have a good resource for a list of object ID's in C4D? I'm digging into scripting and need to be able to look up different object's IDs. I would have assumed Maxon would have provided a list somewhere, but they don't seem to and no amount of Googling has turned anything up. Any leads would be appreciated. Thanks!
  4. Hello, I've been messing around with Python in Cinema 4D for a bit, and was looking for a resource that listed all the object IDs in C4D. I found this image, but thought it might be handy to have a list I could copy/paste from, so I made it and posted it to my blog: http://blog.adamfarnsworth.com/2013/09/26/c4d-python-object-id-list/ I thought someone else might find it helpful, so I thought I'd share it. Like I mention in the post, if anyone has an ID I didn't include and would like it added or has changes, please post them in the comments on the post, and I'll make the changes. Thanks, Adam
  5. Great ideas! Thanks, I'll mess with them both...
  6. I'm creating a preset for a stage light, it includes the model of the lamp, a model of the bulb and a C4D light. I have two materials, one for the lamp, and one for the bulb. I've set up my user data and xpresso to change the color and intensity of the C4D light and the bulb's material from the user data, and that works perfectly. The problem is when I use more than one of the stage lights, since there's only one set of materials, all of the bulbs' materials will take on the color of the first one in the timeline. Technically, it's not the color, it's the luminosity, but it's splitting hairs, same problem. I thought maybe I could affect the color on the texture tag, not the material, since that would be unique to each stage light, but you can't affect any of the material's properties on the tag, just how it's mapped. You can duplicate the bulb material and apply the duplicates to separate colors, but that kind of defeats the purpose of the preset. I had a thought while writing this, maybe I can use an instance object somehow, I'll go play with that, but if anyone on here has an idea, it would be much appreciated! Adam
  7. Am I the only one that doesn't understand why they'd still need an SD version if we're making everyone down-sample anyway? I realize that 4x3 TVs are still fairly prevalent, but when I'm visiting my grandparents (my only exposure to a 4x3 experience) most of the commercials and shows are letterboxed.
  8. OK, so it sounds like I'm not crazy in thinking Quicktime is the expected file type. I didn't want to talk to the client about it before I'd confirmed my suspicion. My guess is the client doesn't know what they want and they're used to seeing AVIs. My understanding is they my graphics will be displayed through some presentation software, probably PowerPoint, so as long as the file size doesn't kill the system, Quicktime should be fine. Thank you everyone, I really appreciate your speed and helpfulness! Great community!
  9. Hello- I'm a motion designer that works on a Mac, and honestly, I'm surprised this is the first time I've run into this. I have a client that wants their final videos delivered as an AVI file. Every other client I've had has been happy with a Quicktime file, and so I've dialed in H.264 to a good balance of compression to quality. But, I have no idea how to set up an AVI export, and don't really have the time to do a ton of testing. I have the ability to export to AVI through Compressor with Flip4Mac Pro, and the compression types I have access to are: Cinepak, DV - PAL, DV/DVCPRO - NTSC, DVCPRO - PAL, DVCPRO50 - NTSC, DVCPRO50 - PAL, and none. I don't want to be a resource hog and kill their playback by going with no compression, and all my training tells me to run like hell from anything with "DV" in the name. But I know nothing about Cinepak. Are there other codecs I should look into, preferably ones that people know work out of Compressor either natively or via Flip4Mac. As you might have guessed, I'm not full on techie, buy I know my way around a computer. Anyway, I'm looking for any and all input, thanks! Adam
  10. Hello, I was running some proof of concept tests, and ran into an odd issue. At certain points in the render, I was getting an odd blurring/shadow thing. I'm guessing it has to do with Ambient Occlusion, but I was hoping someone might have an idea on how to address it in the future. Video link: http://vimeo.com/19495020 Time of issue: 05:28, 9:19, 11:11, it's also scattered throughout, but these are the big hits.
  11. Got it. Yeah, that does make sense. Thanks vozzz, I may lean that way. Even if I do go Mac, I'd be interested in any resources you have on setting up a PC render farm.
  12. That's definitely worth putting some thought into. I say small C4D projects now, but I'ld like to get into doing larger. With my iMac, larger projects are really out of the question. I'm also interested in putting this machine to use for more VFX projects for my independent films, but since they won't be what I make money off of, I don't want to build the machine specifically for it. Thanks for everyone's time and energy, you have no idea how grateful I am for the resources of this community!
  13. I've not seen anything recently about the Dell monitors. A couple years ago I saw them, but recently everything I've seen has been negative on the Dell monitors. Can you link to those positive comparisons?
