  1. Ok - sounds good - I´ll give it a try. To be honest I only tried the AA methods sinc and still frame, but did never touch the threshhold. Is there a way to force the extra AA only on the problematic layers via a tag or so? I thoiught I saw that some where but maybee I mix it up with the motionblur tag...
  2. I just uploaded a picture describing the Problem and a scenfile: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3353715/01_Area%20Shadow.jpg http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3353715/Area%20Shadow%20Problem.c4d.zip
  3. Good Idea - but it made no difference if I had choosen 0,50 or 100 percent. If I set the shadowdepth to 0 the bad effect is gonne - but at 1it is fully back.
  4. Damn - it didnt help. No difference at all... I doubled it form 40 to 80 samples - no visual difference. As a workaround I excluded the Pages from the area shadows and relight them instead with a little GI. It s not perfect but so I can keep those nicer area shadows for the environment and the pages are now lit with a soft gi. It seems the only solution right now...
  5. Hi Forum, I wish there was a way to upload scenefiles or screenshots here - I was searching for about 30 min...so I have to explain my issue: When using Area shadows in Cinema 4D they are looking really ugly (aliased?) on geometry that is close to intersect (like pages on a book). It seems this effect is dependent on the angle of the camera. I tried Increasing antialiasing, shadow samples and shadow accuracy neither didn´t help on the Area shadows. By using Shadow maps it is looking better, but is far from perfect. Is there a workaround? Here is a Picture and the scenfile: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3353715/01_Area%20Shadow.jpg http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3353715/Area%20Shadow%20Problem.c4d.zip
  6. That is a good Idea with the tracer.I am using a Mograph cloner for replicating one already animated pageflip but I can´t figure out how to connect the Nulls onto the via Mograph cloned/animated pages. Do you think there is a way with mograph clones?
  7. @ dan_hin: The pages Flipping is not the main issue here. It is the "binding" (The point where the pages are connected to the Backside of the book.) I have to use a perspective for the animation where you can see exactly how this "binding" is reacting to the flipping of the pages. Look at a real book, the more pages you flip over the more angel will this binding get, and the pages are getting pushed downwards and loose their initial curvature more and more...
  8. Finally someone gets his ass up and tries to bring something new to AE in terms of 3D. I hope we will soon have a lot of those great nuke features...
  9. I don´t know if I understand the problem. But could it be that you use a compositing tag on the sky object and "seen by refractions" is activated. Another thing is that C4D has bigtime issues with its alpha channels on planes. Dof of field and reflections won´t work correctly - This is the one evil thing in C4D which is bugging me for years...
  10. Come on guys - at least any hints would be nice...
  11. Thanks for sharing your solution - just what I needed. This is a very lean and easy way - not "ugly and bloated" at all. Great that you not gave up on this
  12. Hi guys, once again a very great client wants a very unique Book/pageflip animation - D`oh... The issue pageflip is very well explained here on the boards. But this time I have to build a rig/setup which allows the shear of the binding to follow the amount off flipped pages. I am not sure about the terminology here - with binding I mean the part of the pages connected directly to the back of book. I work with CInema 4D - The solution would probably include rigging /expresso. Since that is not my best field I hope someone could give me some practical tips on the issue.

  14. Thanks guys, problem solved! As Tod said I fully misunderstood the use of the seedRandom function. If anybody is interested here is the corrected expression. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ seedRandom(index,1) //change index to a number to randomize the positioning. x = value[0]+random(10,100); // value allows you to reposition the layer. random clamps the lower and upper values of the randomness. y = value[1]+random(10,100); z = value[2]+random(10,100); [x,y,z] // use the variables on the xyz position _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ You could relink the values to expression sliders to build your own Particle system....
  15. Hi Guys, I am trying to build my own 3D-Particle Sytem inside AE. Instead of the good old wiggle I am trying to use the following Expression on the Position Value of the AE-3D Layers: x = seedRandom(index,1) random(10,100); y = seedRandom(index,1) random(10,100); z = seedRandom(index,1) random(10,100); [x,y,z] AE says: "Undefined Value used in Expression. Could be an out of range array subscript." When I delete the seedRandom function on every variable it will work. x = random(10,100); y = random(10,100); z = random(10,100); [x,y,z] But how can I use both functions at the same time? I need the seedRandom function to have any Control over the Random positioning of the layers. I already bought Harry Franks Expressions training - which is worth every cent, but it gives no solution to my problem. Does anybody have an Idea to fix this issue? Thanks Guys!
