    Monitors

Hmm, what GPU? And what exact cable? I am using a 970. I actually did have to get a new (different) model after I moved and it broke, so I guess I should try the new one.

I'd almost prefer that. I need a second screen as preview window basically. It's also nice to have twitter and stuff up on the second monitor so I can get distracted but not waste too much time going back and forth between windows

    Monitors

Anyone got any good monitor advice? Recently switched back to PC and got the Monoprice 28" 4k monitor, but I'm really in need of a second. I thought I could work with 1 monitor, but it's just not gonna happen. Was hoping I could use my old 27" iMac as a displayPort device, but apparently it only works with really specific Intel DP devices Looking at the Dell P2715Q for $530 or maybe the LG 34UM95C-P for $630. I'd love to be able to splurge and get an NEC or something, but I just don't have the cash or need for that nice of a monitor
  4. Anyone an expert on baking for use in a realtime 3D setting? Have a Virtual Set that I'm supposed to take from C4D to our realtime 3D app (Brainstorm eStudio), but I didn't create the set. Mainly issues with GI baking (quality vs time), and then baking in area lights. Think of it as baking for Unity or Unreal.
  5. Built this fairly recently (last 3 months) as I transitioned to freelance. I am currently only doing a lot of realtime 3D stuff, so it's not getting the same usage, but it seems to work great when I use it in C4D/AE. Was using a nMP at work and an i7 iMac at home. Total cost was just under $1800 CASE - Corsair Air 240 (kept it real small) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811139044 MOBO- Asus X99M Killer http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811139044 CPU - i7 5820K - 6 core http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117402 OS HDD - Crucial MX200 500GB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148949 HDD - WE Purple 4TB (mainly work off a fileserver I built, nothing crazy fast but 24TB) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822236659 RAM- 4x8GB GSKILL RIpjaws PC4-19200 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231826 GPU - Zotac GTX970 (is now a Gigabyte i believe, it broke when we moved) https://secure.newegg.com/NewMyAccount/OrderHistory.aspx?RandomID=1756676888821720150708174041 PSU - Corsair CX500M http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139050 CPU Fan- Noctua NH-D9L http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835608068 Thinking about buying an old Quadro 4000/5000 for my realtime work, or convincing the company I'm contracting for to loan me a M6000. Same or less CUDA cores though.
  6. FWIW, most (if not all) of the people doing < x32 stuff output in AVI. @Trione, we are all Mac based so no AVI output, so when I do stuff like that I just render out Lossless MOV and use a program called "Episode" to encode to AVI. Only decent program other than just ffmpegx to do that, that I've found.
  7. Yeah, I see no reason NOT to use an SSD. All my systems (mac and pc) are on SSD OS drives now, and they all feel snappier. It's just for a render node, so it's not really going to have much on it. 120GB should be more than enough. @vozzz: thats the Node804, not 304. From what I've found, it seems the 304 won't work with 2 GPUs, so this whole thing is kinda moot
  8. Gonna hijack this thread. I'm looking at upgrading/moving my fileserver from a Node304 case to a Node804 case (slightly bigger, 2 more drives), so I'll have the skeleton of another system. For an octane renderer A- Does anyone know if the Node304 case will fit 2 GPUs? B- Is a dual core celeron plenty power for a Octane render node C- 2x750ti decent or should I just go for 1 780ti and hope to upgrade to a second later? I'll have the Node 304 case, 1x4GB DDR3 RAM, Intel Celeron G1630 2.8Ghz CPU, and 3 or 4 1TB drives. FIgured I could pickup a decent motherboard, a 120GB SSD, and then a GPU and I'd be good. Thoughts?
  9. Highly recommend using ffmpeg. x264 >>>> QT h264. With that new aempeg script, it should be reallly easy to do. I used to export to Lossless and then encode to x264 using x264 CLI or ffmpeg. This is way easier
  10. How's the work in SD? I'm most likely moving out that way next year, and wondering how hard it's gonna be to find work. Obviously there's a lot a few hours north, but commuting is out of the question for the most part.
  11. Only messed around with Viz and ORAD a little bit, bug worked fulltime with Brainstorm eStudio for a few years. It is easily the most powerful graphics engine around (realtime that is), but it is NOT easy to do mograph type stuff. It was mostly used for replacing CG systems (deko, etc) in order to do way more complicated stuff. It has a really powerful backend for importing data. It is also huge in creative virtual sets/augmented reality type stuff. Viz and ORAD are big in the game as well, but a lot of virtual you see on major networks (NBC,CNBC, ESPN, etc) is Brainstorm. I've used it for everything from video walls (256x1280 up to 3240x1080 and bigger) to virtual sets (ufc, espn sportscenter) and data representation (ball tracking for wimbledon BBC) They actually just recently partnered with Avid to create the new Avid Motion Graphics system. It's basically an Avid-like frontend for eStudio, which allows more motion graphics oriented people to use it. I wasn't a fan, but I learned on the original system and was pretty used to that. As AromaKat said, most of the "artists" for these softwares are really just operators running other people's designs
  12. What SSD did you get? Looking into doing this for my new machine (MP or iMac)
  13. You don't NEED one, but it is preferred. That being said, I had a huge one running in the (carpeted) floor of one of my closets for a couple of years. Probably overheated like crazy, but it ran fine
  14. That explains a lot. Is this a bug that's being worked on or just known? RepositionAnchorPoint at minimum is a daily use ScriptUI panel, not to mention a few more I would like to not live without. And here I was pushing for 32GB of ram in my machine
  15. Todd, Any reason why AE can't import multiple PP sequences at a time? Premiere can import multiple AE comps at a time I believe. Sorry to hi-jack your thread, just figured you'd be looking here.
