  1. They were giving out frozen yogurt at NAB. We dubbed it "Vizurt".
  2. DRINK UP! MEET UP! Sponsored by Red Giant. Get tipsy and tell us what you think about our software. Monday, February 15 6pm - 10pm Public School 310 9411 Culver Blvd. Culver City, CA 90232 http://psontap.com/locations/ps310/
  3. HEYYO. February 15 from 7 - 10pm, come on out for drinks and hand shakes with myself and the Trapcode Product Manager. I am open to locations. I've been away from Culver City for a while, so what's a good place to meet?
  4. Here's one idea: http://www.firehousevenice.com (Corner of Rose & Main) 213 Rose Ave. Venice, CA, 90291
  5. Hey there! Remember me? So, Red Giant will be hosting the Feb 16 DMALA. Being a former West LA resident myself, I thought it would be great to have a west side meetup as well for those that cannot make it the 3,000 miles (or so it feels like) to get from the west side to Hollywood. I swear it used to take me 2 hours to get from Venice to Barnsdall Park. So, I was thinking Monday February 15. I am totally up for suggestions for an area and place. What would be best? Venice? Santa Monica? Culver City?
  6. I just thought I'd pop in and drop a few notes on the new Trapcode Suite. Starting with the TL;DR: TAO is new. Make 3D geometry from 3D light paths. Reflections, IBL, repeaters, more. Kinda like if MIR and 3D Stroke had a baby. MIR: a few new things, you can loop and control your fractals a lot better, render quads, do a second wireframe render pass. Much better VRAM management for hefty cards. Particular: The brand new "Effects Builder" pop-out window. Preview your settings in real time, browse and save presets and "blocks" which are subsets of categories (much like MB Looks). Shine: Connect to 3D Lights without having to use expressions. Mix fractal noise with shine automatically. New color maps. Starglow: NEW COLOR MAPZ! Sound Keys: Almost forgot this. New color mapping and quantization of the meters. Turn on and off UI elements to isolate the meter outputs. What's new in Particular 2.5: http://www.redgiant.com/products/trapcode-particular/whats-new/ The brand new Trapcode TAO: http://www.redgiant.com/products/trapcode-tao/ Here are the resources for TAO: http://www.redgiant.com/products/trapcode-tao/resources/ http://www.redgiant.com/tutorial/getting-started-with-trapcode-tao-pt-1-paths-and-segments/ http://www.redgiant.com/tutorial/getting-started-with-trapcode-tao-pt-2-repeaters-and-deformers/ http://www.redgiant.com/tutorial/getting-started-with-trapcode-tao-pt-3-materials-and-rendering/ What's new in Trapcode MIR: http://www.redgiant.com/products/trapcode-mir/whats-new/ What's new in Trapcode Shine: http://www.redgiant.com/products/trapcode-shine/whats-new/ http://www.redgiant.com/tutorial/getting-started-with-trapcode-shine-in-after-effects/
  7. Are there folks that would be interested in a Wordpress portfolio, but just don't have the time to learn it? I was kicking around the idea of a tutorial on the concept. It's pretty easy. Part of the trick is working with a video friendly template, or at least having a plugin that deals well with video. There's a number of easy options. Or... meh?
  8. Soon... http://frame.io/ We used it on the last Red Giant film and it was really awesome. Granted, "coming soon" doesn't help you now.
  9. I must not be following the problem. If you want the turbulence to happen later, then just keyframe the parameter that be affected by turbulence. Anyway, it sounds like you have a couple options already.
  10. Unless I am missing something here... Physics > Turbulence Field > Fade-in Time
  11. Crawlies are exactly what you might get when sending a render across a network of GPUs. That's the bugger here. GPU from machine to machine can be pretty inconsistent. And Element has no fallback CPU mode. I think, fundamentally, Element 3D is simply designed to be a down-and-dirty 3D rendering environment. I use it for basic shapes, slabs and every job that requires a jet fighter (which so far is zero).
  12. If I understand this correctly, you should really just be able to take the "Speed" value from Timewarp and multiply by the current time. Basically, how fast you are going times how long you are traveling. spd = thisComp.layer("Timewarp").effect("Timewarp")("Speed")/100; spd * time Edit: Just noticed that you said "Speed RAMP". That's a different mess all together. It might be possible, but this would be really complicated to accumulate the values while they change in value. TL;DR: It's really hard.
  13. I don't really know who at Red Giant peed in your cheerios. It really couldn't be a more talented, hard-working and modest group of people that if you actually met in person, you'd probably like. I am sorry you feel this way. Nothing could be further from the truth. So on that note, I'll be heading back to my yacht for the rest afternoon. I've got a meeting with CEO and we will be talking about what is the best Ferrari to buy.
  14. Stay classy, Mylenium. "Ugh"? Are we like the friend that no one likes any more? We are currently adding to the vector drawing abilities of Universe, so this would be totally doable. If you have any further specs or requirements, shoot them to harry (at) redgiant.com Also, I'll make sure to include 3 built-in glows for it, just for Mylenium.
  15. Oops.. and obviously I changed it to 50% for testing, rather than the 25% it should be.
  16. You just need to get that center point calculated and measure to that x/y point: pct = .5; // increase by 25%? r = 200; // distance to being increasing scale center = [thisComp.width/2, thisComp.height/2]; p = toWorld(anchorPoint); d = length(p, center ); mult = ease(d,0,r,pct,0); value*(1+mult) Or you could also just make that 'center' a null object position and freely vary the scale point.
  17. Reading that article, they don't really seem to have a strategy in mind. Here are some selected tidbits from that article: "A lot of the announcement is that [the deal] has happened but we haven’t had a lot of time to really strategize about what it will all mean." "What is the strategy behind the acquisition? Because it is so new to us, we don't really know what the long-term plans are going to be." "We don't know what the long-term plan will be, but when we put it in the portfolio next to Resolve, it will build a really important part of the puzzle out there." "We don’t have a timeline or an ideal grand plan. There’s lots of research and thinking to be done." Sounds like a pretty solid plan!
  18. I just took a nice stroll along memory lane reading my updates over the years. I am glad to see this still up! Mograph wiki has a special place in my heart. After moving my family to LA in 2009 to work at a shop that folded up in 3 months, I hopped on the site to drum up work. I started with "A" and I moved down the list. Fortunately, I got as far as Blur, landed a 4 day gig which turned into 4 months. This really, really saved me when I was in a tough spot.
  19. You can tell how old the problem is by looking that the site for the software that can fix the problem: http://www.acutesystems.com/scrcf.htm
  20. This used to be a common problem, and I've not encountered this in a while. It used to be that "Mac" typefaces stored their data in a place where Windows just didn't see it. These days, a TTF is TTF and Mac OS or Windows pretty much see them the same way. Honestly, I've not seen this since Mac OS 9. Is it perhaps an older typeface?
  21. When I worked at WDIV-Detroit, we had one in for a day to try out. The experience made me want to punch a baby. I could see if someone committed to learning this.. became technically proficient AND could design, that you could probably make a killing. Then again, there are a lot of terrible things we could do to make more money.
