  1. I switched to pc completely a few years ago and here are some things that made it easy Read write Mac drives on windows. They show up with all the other drives https://www.paragon-software.com/home/hfs-windows/ A explorer replacement the is mac like (or better than) https://www.gpsoft.com.au Prores encoder/decoder http://www.miraizon.com/products/codecsoverview.html Windows 10 works really well and there isn't really anything you can't do in the mograph/animation world with it.
  2. I've found this book to be really useful in my work. Universal Principles of Design, Revised and Updated: 125 Ways to Enhance Usability, Influence Perception, Increase Appeal, Make Better Design Decisions http://www.amazon.com/Universal-Principles-Design-Revised-Updated-ebook/dp/B00A3T5UO4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1396007043&sr=8-1&keywords=universal+principles+of+design
  3. These sign in problems are really the only big downside to the CC in my opinion. I actually really like the idea of CC for the most part. I was able to meet some of the people behind After Effects last fall and came away very impressed with the team and their vision for the future of the application. That said these connectivity and licensing issues must be fixed! It is totally unacceptable that creative cloud can become so unreliable and it's interrupting my ability to get work done. AND the fact that there is nowhere to turn to get solutions is disheartening to say the least. I am hoping Mr. Kopriva will jump in here with some tips about this issue.
  4. Is anyone out there having problems with Adobe CC signing out constantly. It's happening 20+ times a day and is especially maddening because each time I lose connection to the fonts I'm trying to work with. Plus it is constantly asking me to accept a EULA each time I start the software. I'm running Windows 7 64-bit. I have temporary success with this, but eventually the problem comes back: Rename the SLStore to SLStore.old from this Location Windows: C:\ProgramData\Adobe Mac: /Library/Application Support/Adobe Once done please rename OOBE to OOBE.old from this Location Windows: C:\Users\(Your Username)\AppData\Local\Adobe Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe I'm looking for a permanent fix so I can quit messing around and get some work done!

Gee wiz AromaKat, for one the open GL and how well it is working on my system. Is that a good enough reason for you?

Mr. Kramer, This plug-in looks rad, but why no demo version?
  7. PFhoe is only $99 and has never failed me.
  8. I've had one in my mac pro for a few years now. Works really well with After Effects and Photoshop. I have had lots of problems with it and Premiere, but I've pretty much given up using Premiere all together on my mac.
  9. I'm just impressed you are attempting to train HS students in 3d imaging. Sounds like you have your work cut out for you whatever software you end up with because the learning curve on 3d graphics in general is so high. I think it is hard to teach all the small details and gotchas. And they REALLY need to be self motivated and put in the time to grasp the concepts which would be hard in 1 hour blocks. Blender would absolutely be a nightmare. I would go cinema 4d too I guess. Keep it simple! Good luck to you.
  10. I wouldn't get an iMac because of the glossy screen. Plus you want to set up a raid 0 for working files. See if you can get a refurbished or used 8-core?
  11. Sorry to hear you got laid off. Probably end up be the best thing that could of happened to you career wise. I have an S-Corp now and it is a benefit that can save you money. I do think it is smart to have a year or two under your belt as a sole proprietor first to get a ball park of what your income will be. Unless you have a robust stream of income an s-corp can be too much of a burden to be worth it. Also my accountant gave me a heads up that some of the saving we are seeing as s-corps or LLCs (Which can file as s-corp) will be changing in 2011. My guy told me C-Corp might be the way to go in 2011 and beyond...
  12. Hi guys, would love to get together sometime.

I've done both. Both are good, but If you ONLY want to learn c4d I would say go with cineversity.
  14. If it's just basic modeling/lighting/rendering it seems like x2 your hourly rate is a bit excessive considering the amount of affordable or even free training available.
  15. 7 is primo for me, but when busy I can roll with 4-5. Any less and I'll be wearing my crabby pants. I do my best work between 11pm and 2am just stitting in the dark, jamming headphones, sipping a beer and working. It's really one of my simple pleasures.
  16. It's truly A+. A must have for any serious mographer. Or any CG professional for that matter.
  17. Well tread softly for now my friend. Your site is really a nice resource.
  18. A sampling of your other blog posts... Vray Linear Workflow... V-ray 1.5 SP3 Released... Mental Ray Linear Workflow... Mray vs. Vray Prt. One... Dude, you are sooooo the "3d guy"!!! But seriously hilarious post. I remember how stupid it sounded when someone referred to me as "After Effects Genius" Just makes you cringe...
  19. Really love it, keep it up! I have one question. So recently everyone has been really impressed with The Watchmen titles. Would you get a take down notice if you posted that? I know Motionographer did, but in your case it's considered fair use right? I'm just wondering how that works is all.
  20. C. Smith, I think, has the real answer, it proves the concept of an accomplished image is one that software will never be able to fill in the blanks alone. At least not with today's tools. My low-rent suggestion would be to check out Magic Bullet Looks. Its pretty simple and I'm sure you have heard of it, but it gives lots of tools for tweaking footage and has a ton of good presets that are good jumping off points to get good, common color grades. It can quickly get over over done, but used with restraint and a good eye can be an real improvement. But yeah, it's no replacement for the process described above. It can be a fun plug-in to just play with and I've even used it to give my graphic heavy work a final something extra. I would also look into RE:Vision effects FieldsKit if you are dealing with interlacing. It gives you better options than AE offers out of the box.
  21. I have more or less the exact same setup. I think the RAID card in a Mac Pro at least is something that would be beneficial for a RAID 5 set up with data redundancy. It's my understanding that the RAID 0 or "scary RAID" is still going to be faster that a single sata HD even without a dedicated RAID card. I just back my RAID 0 up every night on an external drive and its not as scary.
  22. But isn't the paradigm already shifting to just that? Other apps are able to chug away with multiprocessor loads and not cause the the entire system to flake out. I do a lot of rendering and re rendering of elements in c4d while I happily work away in After Effects simultaneously. I'm going to play around with these scripts which will hopefully help to at least control resources more and maybe just split the difference on speed and responsiveness. Thanks for posting them, really cool stuff!
  23. Same. I just got this and it's working great. http://www.amazon.com/Thermaltake-Blacx-HD...7658&sr=8-1 I use USB, but you can get a eSata version too. I have a bunch of internal drives in static free packaging on my shelf. I can just grab what I need and plug it in without the need to shut down or unscrew anything. You can buy a 1TB drive for under $100 bucks right now.
