    PC Build for Octane

Am I missing something? I don't get why people are building machines with low ghz.. Wouldn't you want a higher number or overclock capabilities for when you jump over to ae?

    mograph.net needs your help

slack was fun for a day.. if there was a way to archive relevant conversations on there, that would be awesome.

Hackintosh, PC, or stick w/ Mac?

I've been running a hackintosh for 2 years with no problems. Love the ability to overclock and fuck with internal parts. Looking forward to new chips coming out at the end of the year to build a new one. For $1800 its a pretty great system if you're keen on OsX which I still am.

    Transitioning to another career

Aside from the occasional stress of having to be "on" when I'm not always feeling 100% creative or the rush to deadline, I feel damn lucky to be in this field. To each his own I guess.. I can't imagine doing anything else honestly. Maybe its the lack of being tied down and having always been freelance. The reality is the that I think the people in our field are some of the most awesome people out there to work with. Freelance benefits me the freedom to travel between projects, keep up with hobbies, and lead a fairly balanced life. Perhaps if I was working for a sweatshop house or a fulltimer somewhere I didn't like, my tune would be different.

    Recommend a film

I could write a lengthy list but instead I'll mention that I saw my first bollywood flick on christmas - PK. Surprisingly entertaining.. I'd recommend checking out it out. I plan on watching the directors other films at some point.

Laptop buying advice (for ae & c4d work)

Well that sounds promising! I can always render on my tower if I need to.. Guess I just wanted to make sure that it held up with most other things (well enough). I'm considering getting a used 2013 model and save a few hundred bucks - 15" Retina 2.7 GHz 16gb ram.

Laptop buying advice (for ae & c4d work)

It's great aside from troubles I've been having setting up a drobo. Done a ton of work on it in the past year on it and have been comfortably overclocked at 4.3ghz (original chip is 3.5ghz). Hoping to swap out the motherboard and processor one day to go from quad-core to hexa-core.
  13. Looking to get a second machine so I don't have to be tied down to my tower. Mostly look at mb pros but am open to suggestion. I'm currently running a hackintosh tower and wouldn't be against a hackintosh laptop assuming it wasn't bulky/ugly. Any advice is appreciated!

Adobe CC, thumbs up or down?

Thumbs up.. access to all adobe programs, easy to use updater, fair priced imo (cheaper would be ideal of coure). I haven't had any problems and really dig the ease in which all the programs shake hands now. Only gripe for me is that my day job doesn't have it yet so I have to remember to down-save when doing stuff from home.
