  3. You can find world 90m elevation data here: http://srtm.csi.cgiar.org/ SimpleDEMViewer will read in the ARC ASCII data, derived from USGS/NASA SRTM data. (I didn't test the GeoTIFF format as the ARC ASCII worked fine). Hope that helps with your workflow

  6. weviestonder, if you're in a pinch, you can try an AE adjustment layer over your comp with a slight blur - I mean tiny, say, 0.2 Box Blur depending on the res of your comp. Above the adjustment layer, place a copy of the z-pass. On the z-pass, run Find Edges and invert. Tinder edge detect gives you finer control over the edge fidelity. Use the edge detect layer as your luma matte to holdin the Box Blur adjustment. Pdeb

    I've had success with alpha add, then adding an adjustment layer on top of everything and applying CC Force Motion Blur instead of AE moblur - that way you don't get gaps between the sides. pdeb

Well said, Harry, and great thread, it's spurred me to share one of my recent effects involving expressions: a little while back I needed to make an oscillating or 'crenelated' spiral path: http://members.shaw.ca/pdebay/cren_spiral.png With the help of, who else, Dan Ebberts, and nab's Create Custom Effect script, I made this into an editable effect - it's tied to the Write-On effect, but you can easily pick-whip the output to any positional-based parameter. It was created for a particular purpose (and perhaps limited in its use), but in the spirit of community, the archive is here: http://members.shaw.ca/pdebay/PDB_Crenelat...ral_beta0.1.zip the archive contains the AE7 .ffx preset, as well as the text you'll have to copy and paste into your "PresetEffects.xml" - if you feel comfortable tweaking that file, of course. Roughen Edges is quite effective on an adjustment layer - if you adjust the opacity/edge feather of an underlying layer, Roughen Edges (Cut/Spiky mode) does a fantastic job - give it a try over a paint stroke with some semi-transparency. If you animate Evolution, it gives you another set of Fractal Noise effects. pdeb
