  2. Didnt realize someone could regurgitate so many PR releases and banter in one post. Lets get some things down RUMOR 1 Apple is not creating ,working on developing any new High End compositor and that basically is coming from the horses mouth which you can even listen to on the fxguide podcast with Ron Brinkmann one of the men responsible for Shake(nReal) who has been consulting at The Foundry for some time working on Nuke. Emeek says"Shake started an industry, everything else are imitators that came after." so I guess Paintbox,HAL,Eddie,PDI,TIPS,Ampex dont count as they were all pre Shake and used at all the major houses. I didn't even name all the other packages but numerous ones pre dated Shake so it would be good to know a little VFX history before spouting wrong info. Nuke is the most solid choice for the future as far as support of a great company and knowing what compositors want/need. Shake wont die until people stop using it but it wont always be up to snuff as technology and the industry changes which is and has been happening since Apple washed its hands of it in 2006. That rant just sounds like banter from someone who has no clue about working in the industry at all. If you worked on features, commercials or anything even close you would know apps are just tools anyone can punch numbers and brush strokes.Mac ,PC they are all Computers ,computers are tools for artists to use . You think Picasso cared if he was using the most advanced horse hair , he painted with his fingers...Point is while your huffing about pointless nonsense who rumors and whats better then the next you obviously arent doing much work in the industry . If there is a stable set of tools that gets the job done ill use it no matter if I happen to dislike the OS on a personal level or not sometimes when you have a real gig you dont have a choice you use in house tools on XP 32/64/7 , liNUX(flavor of the week build) or OSX .Most DI tools dont even run on a Mac and those are the industry standard Scratch,Clipster,Arri,Lustre etc.

  7. no worries.see who is up for it after the meeting.
  8. Good question and not unreasonable . answer is venue and planning. Venues to hold the meetings in NYC are extremely costly and alot of us are freelancers just like alot of the locals to the boards. The timing is pretty much what it is because of what we have to work with . The school we hold them at fits our budget and we have tried to get schools like SVA,Parsons,FIT,BAM etc involved either they want way to much money or are just not interested which is a shame . And most of us getting off work would not want to attend a meeting at 9 pm at night that would last till midnight. Maybe we can get shops even more involved in the NYC/AENY/VFX community by giving this as a learning break in some way I have talked to a few shops that are down for the cause others just want the money train flowing. If we can ever find a truly happy medium that works for everyone I am sure we will make it happen. Hope you can make it out to one soon. Later, Jim

  18. Thanks for the comments and imcalledandy thanks for the update for people not following the AE Enhancers .
  19. I wouldn't waste money on the Apple LED 24(also its mini display port so you need an adapter or compatible graphics card) you can get a better monitor cheaper and if you want color accuracy I would spend the saved money on a hardware calibrator like the Eye One Display 2. http://www.amazon.com/Pantone-MEU103-Eye-O...2/dp/B000CR78CO Anyone not calibrating monitors should be or should learn how . Even trying to find the now discontinued Apple ACD 23 in with a Eye One would be a good deal. You can still find these online and at some stores. You can also get pixel for pixel accuracy with a Matrox MXO and a Cinema Display(non LED) I have been using my second ACD like this for over a year and is cheaper solution to monitor your work if you cant spring for a Kona 3 and a HD/SDI monitor. http://www.matrox.com/video/en/products/mxo/ You can grab some nice NEC monitors for less then a grand online just research the specs of the new 24 inch models that came out around CES. Dont rule out the lesser HP model right under the Dreamcolor .
