  1. This was a fun TV spot I was able to work on for a local Law Firm that offered free Taxi rides on St. Patricks day to keep Utah roads safe. https://vimeo.com/89146724 Utah Video Production
  2. Hey Guys, Check out my updated reel. Hope you guys like it.
  3. Hey Guys, I'm looking for a little guidance in getting better motion in my work. I use predominatly After Effects and have started my journey in C4D (I am a previous Maya user so just transistioning over). I sometimes feel I fall short when animating due to the motion I produce, it doesnt always look the best, sometimes amateurish. I'll look at a piece of somebody else's and it will be amazing, the motion will be fantastic. I'll then try and recreated the said motion myself but with very poor results. I find it very frustrating. Having pondered this for sometime I realised I was negelected the Graph editor due to my poor understand of it. I understand its purpose but don't particularly know how to use it. I did come across this site today and have found it an enormous help to understand interpolation - However I need something better. I need more teaching perhaps. Some articles, video, tutorials, book? I want to learn how but also why. Could someone please point me in the right direction to a better understanding of this. I know its the foundation to great animation and I am a little lost. Thanks Liam
  4. Hi everyone, this is my new showreel, I hope you like it! https://www.behance.net/gallery/SHOWREEL-2013/14147735 cheers
  5. So does anybody know how to scale down a null that has a few moving animations inside it without messing up the animations? I tried putting it in a cloner and baking it with a cache tag, then scaling it down, but that didn't work. I figure this has got to be pretty simple…. Any help would be great! 6. I'm sure some or a lot of you have come across the work of Fraser Davidson, it seems that every single piece of his has such incredible fluidity and really nice use of color. His latest piece, took apparently 2 weeks to complete - I find this hard to believe, but its extremely inspirational nonetheless. I find it takes me forever to do any character animation in AE, let alone anything nearly as technical as this: I have a couple of questions for discussion if you're interested, some things in this piece sparked my curiosity. + Simple one I'm sure, but how does he always have such a good lens flare? And how does the flare react to the camera's position? (is it VC's optical flares plugin? I've never used it so not sure if it's that) + How to achieve such awesome use of textures? What kind of textures are giving it such a great look? Do you think they're track matted to each of the characters? At times it looks like it's just an adjustment layer but other times it seems like theres loads of texture layers. +The camera fly-in at 00:36, I'm assuming there's a warp adjustment layer (like fish-eye or so) or is it key framing the camera's lens? Looks very well executed imo Cheers!
  7. Hi guys, I found these bizarre and otherworldly fractals that I wanted to share with you: They're mine- I rendered them with 'Mandelbulb 3D'. Great stuff for motion graphics lovers.

  11. Hey, I wanted to put a thread out there to see if there is any interest in a animation / mograph meetup type thing. I see that there seems to be a lot of AE and C4D meetups in various big cities but I'm failing to see anything similar here. What I was thinking of was getting people together who are interested in Mograph / Animation / AE / C4D / VFX etc and meeting for a drink etc and seeing what happens. It could be a great way to meet new people and just have someone to talk too about our interests. I asked the question before but no known meetups existed. I've googled it quite a bit and can't seem to find anything (I may also just be looking in the wrong place so if anything does exist please point me in the right direction). I have spoken with a couple people already and they are keen to meet. There seems to be a lot of us doing this type of work in and around Melbourne and it would be great to meet. If anyone is interested then please do get in touch and I can arrange something! You can email me at info [at] liamcarlin [dot] com or reply to this thread. Thanks Liam p.s. I will be posting this on a few forums so apologies if you see this twice or thrice!
  12. Mooschool collaborated with Pressure Drop Pictures to produce 4 x 30" TV channel branding idents for Sony Turbo Russia. Here's a link to the project on my website. You'll find more info on there too. I designed and animated the sequences combining 3D environments with stills photography to create a kind of faux timeslice. I won't ramble on but do shout if any questions about how it was put together. Similarly, happy to hear any criticisms... or compliments! Thanks, Nick Maroussas www.mooschool.co.uk

  16. Hey gang, I just wrapped up an infographic animation segment for a short documentary explaining how septic systems on Cape Cod pollute the local groundwater, lakes, ponds and estuary systems with nitrogen and phosphorus. Love to know what everyone thinks. Thanks! Septic System Pollution
  17. Hello all, i'd appreciate some feedback on my latest animation. Its a short film inspired by exhibition of Post War British Textiles at Copenhagen Design Museum. Thanks for watching.
  18. Here is a labour of love created in a tight 6 weeks. We used After Effects, Photoshop, C4D, Flash, Premiere and Divinci to make it happen. For full crew list check the vimeo Thanks for watching https://vimeo.com/75782290
  19. Hey all, I just finished animating and producing a visual ambient album. It's more like a moving cg sculpture and less like a short film. The album consists of a looping visual with audio interpreted for each loop by several music artists from around the world. Hopefully we've captured something unique here. It's long and meditational, not a 1 minute popper for sober office lunchtime viewing. So wait till you get home, then get blitzed and turn out the lights, full-screen this in HD and enjoy! http://vimeo.com/76794746 you can download the audio only version album, check out some project extras and see more of my stuff here www.plantheadmedia.com Enjoy!
  20. “There’s a lot of wonderful possibilities for real-time visual compositing with Quartz Composer. Most existing QC learning resources though, tend to emphasise the generative graphics capabilities of QC. For those with a post-production, animation, motion graphics or VJ background – QC’s composition potential can be difficult to unleash.” Hoping to make the transition to Quartz Composer a bit easier for the above kinda folk - I’ve gone and made a page which documents how various animation + post production techniques and processes can be recreated inside QC… (eg Composite multiple video sources, Image Masking, Pre-framing video into compositions, Working With Layers from Photoshop, Nesting + Pre-composing in AE, Inverse Kinematics, camera paths.. etc). I’m planning to slowly add to this ‘Compositing with Quartz Composer‘ page over time.. with the hope that it’ll - help non-programmers with video compositing ideas, adapt to QC more easily help me wrap my head around QC better (the page features many questions…) encourage more experimentation with visual composition effects in QC (alongside the current popularity of using QC to generate graphics) Would love to hear from anyone with questions (about something that isn’t clear) – or suggestions ( how to clarify a concept better, or other animation concepts that could be included etc ). http://www.skynoise.net/quartz-composer/compositing-and-quartz-composer/

    Infographic WIP

Hey, I've missed this place. Almost forget it existed for the past couple of years. Working on this animated infographic about facts of visual communication. Wanted some fresh eyes. There are still a few errors in there that need ironing out. Tight deadlines mean this has already been sent out so want to give my eyes a few weeks off before I come back to it. Main priority is to redo the end line to try to make it as interesting as the rest. I am questioning the readability so thoughts on that would be good. https://vimeo.com/75402885 Password: info All comments welcome. Cheers, Chris
