  1. Hi Folks, Here's the setup: I'm making a paper looking globe by putting a slice of sphere in a radial cloner object, and then fanning it out so that it creates a globe. This all works beautifully until I try to combine the fix texture option with animating the start and end angle of the radial cloner object. What I'm trying to do is attach a map texture to the cloner object, so that when it's fanned out completely, the individual segments of the cloner have the image of the map spread across them. I'm using spherical mapping, and that works well, and looks how I want it to (img. 1). The problem comes when my globe fans from shut position to full globe position. Once it animates in C4d, it maps the globe texture to each individual segment, not as a globe overall (img. 2). For some reason, the texture does stick and work properly if the globe is animating from full globe to shut position. The problem with that is I need it to go from shut to open. I'm banging my head against the wall here. Any suggestions? C4D R11.5 Project File: http://www.mtinley.com/previews/tinley/Paper_Sphere.c4d
  2. Hi Guys, This is my first post on here so I hope its in the appropriate place. I've been trying to replicate the effect found on the breakdown of a piece posted on Greyscalegorilla, here's a link: Basically I want to replicate the third shot in the breakdown where a bunch of cubes fly out, it looks like under the influence of a plain effector, while splines remain attached to the cubes at one end while anchored to world zero at the other. The splines all have spline dynamics and move and wiggle convincingly based on the movement of their respective cube, gravity, etc. The only way I've been able to make this work is by manually animating each element, and this video leads me to believe there is a way to automate this process through mograph, just haven't been able to make it work. Any advice on how to achieve an effect like this as mograph-automated as possible would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  3. Hello everyone! I am working on texturing a baseball from some macro shots. A preview of the overall animation is here. Below are some images that illustrate the issue I'm having. I am hoping to be able to texture the baseball as a whole to maximize flexibility (as opposed to texturing each shot individually.) So far my attempts to unwrap the UVs have been wildly unsuccessful. I'm now beginning to question modeling this from a spline with Extrude NURBS. It seemed like a much more logical approach as opposed to box modeling and trying to cut out all 182 holes by hand or with a Boole. For the life of me I can't find any tutorials on how to unwrap the UVs on an object that started as an ExtrudeNURBS. Every solution I have come across that uses a text object or some sort of Extrude, the solution is always "change the mapping to Cubic." As you can see in the attached images Cubic does not work. Any help is greatly appreciated Thanks everybody! (edit: sorry for the links instead of images, for some reason it won't let me post these images) The original Spline https://www.dropbox.com/s/o8va4d7myiidtrv/00%20-%20spline.jpg Cubic Mapping https://www.dropbox.com/s/fec6ub391irlpf6/01%20-%20cubic.jpg Spherical Mapping https://www.dropbox.com/s/msswkzwo1ffn2s4/02%20-%20spherical.jpg UVW Mapping https://www.dropbox.com/s/jvo0w3te169oaox/03%20-%20uvw.jpg
  4. I'm trying to create a similar effect to the closing credits in the video below without a lot of manual labor involved. I have clones positioned where I want on the surface of the sphere and want to generate multiple arc splines from one point and have them connect to other clones I've positioned on the surface of the sphere. I'm thinking about a setup where I can use the point index of the clones along with a sweep nurbs and a primitive arc spline or tracer object to generate the splines for me. The problem with the tracer is that it wants to draw a straight line, not a smooth arc between the two clones. Any ideas on a simple setup to acheive this? It's really just using the point index of clones to define the start and end points of an arc spline but my lack of xpresso knowledge is slowing me down. Thanks!

  6. I hate to be one of those "how is this done" guys, but i've only done a little bit of c4d. I saw this guy's doodad, and I thought it was cool. Any tips on how to get close to what he's doing? Is it a fracture object?
  7. Hey, just posted another big project case study for our most recent project at Zeitguised! http://www.mattfrodsham.com/makingbanque6 Cheers, Matt (sorry I'm still not quite sure where these are best put - somewhere between showcase and tutorial?)
  8. I'm trying to get random UV offsets on the textures of clones of a mograph object. Basically I just want to offset the layered noise I have distressing these clones' texture. What am I missing here?

  10. Hey guys, so I've got a a bunch of small objects grouped together to form a logo... In this group I also have a light rig illuminating the front of the logo. What I'm trying to do is drop this group into a cloner to use the spline effector to animate the logo. My problem is that when I drop this group into the cloner (I set number of clones to 1) the lights in the rig are no longer affecting the object. Anybody have a clue as to what is going on?

  12. Hi all! I'm trying to figure out how to explode the pieces of a soccer ball using C4D but I can't seem to figure out how to do it. Here is an example of the look: http://www.ea.com/soccer/fifa/ps3 Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!
  13. Hello I am looking for great example of motion graphics using mograph effectors, any suggestions, links? cheers

  16. http://vimeo.com/33243611 In this tutorial you will learn how to utilise a motion vector pass from Cinema 4D to introduce motion blur in to your final comp, with RE: Vision Effects Reel Smart Motion Blur Vectors Plugin. •• Note if your C4D project is set to linear mode and 32bit .exr you dont need to use the Preserve RGB data, just use the linear workflow in your AE comp •• •• Also If you render with other geometry behind your object to be blurred, render out an object buffer and use that instead of the alpha, to cut out your moving objects •• ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| Plugin Site revisionfx.com/products/rsmb/ Special thanks to HDMG Audio Mix: Carly Zuckweiler
  17. So I'm trying to get my camera created by Action Cam from C4D r14 into AE cs6. I can get PSR data through the aec by baking the camera (well technically baking a new camera that uses xpresso to link the action cam camera global matrix to the new camera's global matrix). Now how do I get the focal length across? I've tried getting the focal length and focal distance out of c4d by linking those to the coordinates of another camera (so the x coord is the focal length and y is distance), but I can't route the focal length in AE right. I could get the focal distance to link back that way though. What am I missing?

    WIP - First Reel

https://vimeo.com/62522404 This is an early draft of my first reel. Most of it is made up of loops i use for projections to music because thats most of what I have been making. I have some more commercial-like pieces that I might add to create some diversity. At any rate, I'd like to hear what you think about it. Any glaring mis-steps, anything you're missing from it that I should work on making. Thanks!
  20. I'm having trouble exporting out the stereo camera from c4d r13 to after effects via the composing project file (aec) export. I'm selecting stereoscopic in render settings and have experimented with the different modes. In after effects I only get a camera in the Left eye comp while the right eye comp lacks any cameras and nulls. Anyone had this experience or solution? thanks in advance, simon
  21. Hey all, AENY meeting is tomorrow 3/28 . Important topic VFX Town Hall current state of VFX with myself , Bran Doughtery-Johnson, Eric Alba and others. 22. AE and C4D for the visuals. Audio created in Logic. I would like to thank XStockVideo for the TV noise footage, and their bizarre lack of search functionality which led me to the snail. This C4D->AE script saved some time. Thanks for watching; if in fact, you did press play.
  23. I created this collection of free tutorials from various artists that are helping me learn C4D, and I thought to share them with everyone, in case they're helpful for you as well. Here's a link to the collection: http://pinterest.com/shalomo/3d-tutorials-cinema-4d/ If you've made some tutorials that you'd like to be added to the collection, reply with a link. And if you've made any of these tutorials that are in this collection, I offer my heartfelt thanks. I hope you enjoy the added exposure for your work that this collection provides.
  24. Hey Guys, I just built up a new PC workstation after many years on a Mac. Overall everything is great. But I am really missing the option control+clicking in C4D with my tablet instead of right clicking. Those damn buttons are just awkward to press... maybe it's just me... Anyways, what do all of you PC + Tablet + C4D guys out there do? I tried hotkeys, but it was kind of a nuisance; I couldn't get it to actually emulate a key+click = right click. Thanks in advance!
  25. I was in the middle of a long overdue reel overhaul when I fell into the C4D -> AfterEffects dance. Importing an AEC to After Effects is painless enough. But then you go back to C4D and make some timing alterations, move some objects around, add some nulls, etc. Now you’re left with reimporting the AEC and copy pasting between comps. This script attempts to alleviate the pain. For more info and instruction, check out the blog post. I still have to clean up the code and layout a bit, but it's working on my side. As a side note, it works between any two comps, and is not limited to merging C4D imports. DOWNLOAD (right click / save link as) I'm hoping it cuts one Tylenol from the Mographer's diet.
