  1. A short mograph piece playfully critiquing the impact Instagram is having on the world of photography by imagining what it would have been like if someone Instagrammed one of the most famous photos of all time. #NotEverythingNeedsAFilter Hope you like it!
  2. I think our industry lends itself to safely starting a small business. Work out of your house, with your own software, on your own computer. It's basically "You Incorporated" However, how do you land a big local client? How do you approach a local ad agency and ask to be considered next time they have an account that requires mograph? How do you actually get your studio name out there in the community?
  3. Hey Mograph, It's been a while since I've been able to post one of these. The latest tutorial is over an hour of a million little tips and tricks that lead up the the creation of a cool particle-ish type animation. I cover everything from prepping artwork in Illustrator, setting up a Multishader, using the Inheritance Effector, and the Motion Sketch in AE even makes an appearance. Particle Text with the Inheritance Effector in Cinema 4D Thanks guys! joey
  4. Hey, I wanted to put a thread out there to see if there is any interest in a animation / mograph meetup type thing. I see that there seems to be a lot of AE and C4D meetups in various big cities but I'm failing to see anything similar here. What I was thinking of was getting people together who are interested in Mograph / Animation / AE / C4D / VFX etc and meeting for a drink etc and seeing what happens. It could be a great way to meet new people and just have someone to talk too about our interests. I asked the question before but no known meetups existed. I've googled it quite a bit and can't seem to find anything (I may also just be looking in the wrong place so if anything does exist please point me in the right direction). I have spoken with a couple people already and they are keen to meet. There seems to be a lot of us doing this type of work in and around Melbourne and it would be great to meet. If anyone is interested then please do get in touch and I can arrange something! You can email me at info [at] liamcarlin [dot] com or reply to this thread. Thanks Liam p.s. I will be posting this on a few forums so apologies if you see this twice or thrice!
  5. Finally, after 3 years I have an all-new reel. Let me know what you think! Any/all feedback is welcome!!!
  6. I'm testing out an idea off of this tutorial. http://www.schoolofmotion.com/funky-spline-animation-with-mograph/ I basically took the concept and cloned the cloner that animates the null points. I baked the cloner so that it can keep working once cloned. The problem is in texturing. In the tutorial it uses a tracer to make an outline and an extrude to form the surface. I lose it once I clone the object which I have grouped. I can't bake the extrude or tracer before hand so I'm at a lose. I've tried adding it to the top cloner but its not working. Thoughts?
  7. Messing with the mograph module in cinema 4D. I hope you like it, all comments welcome.
  8. Hi, I've just posted a quick tutorial explaining how to use a Plain Effector to drive any parameter in a Cloner instance (besides just transform/color). Affect Any Clone’s Parameter with an Effector in Cinema 4D
  9. hi, how do I reset the weight once I already changed it via an effector? thanks
  10. I've been asked to recreate the effect seen here, as a way of displaying showreel videos. http://www.jakemathew.com (It's the video 10, the cubes) Here's my attempt so far: https://www.wetransfer.com/downloads/f40ac65b12908440f2fb04f554065da820130807010636/99a4d9b51767d05b329a69890c29afa320130807010636/4771bb In this example he uses the sound effector I think to drive the movement/extrude of the cubes. I'm trying to achieve essentially the same thing but with the extrude of the cubes driven by a mograph shader effector. Then I will use a multi shader texture to map the textures over the cubes. My method seems a little flawed as I am using the shader effector to non-uniformly control the Y-Scaling on the cloned cubes. This gives two problems: 1 - The cubes scale in both directions - not from the base 2 - The cubes textures stretch over Y - which looks ugly. Looking at his example the textures on his cubes seem to stretch the pixels of the cube edge. Whereas in my version the entire texture is stretched in Y. This makes me think he used a different method to achieve the result. Can anyone shed any light on how he achieved the effect? Or alternative ways to go about this? I've reached the limits of my (limited) C4D knowledge and would love to know how to get past that last 10% and get this finished. Thanks!
  11. Howdy folks, I moved to the Philadelphia area from LA several months ago, looking to meet fellow mograph people, hear some war stories and find a gig. Maybe even start a Meetup. Anyone out there?
  12. Okay, so i have a stack of speakers that has a dynamics tag applied to the cloner object that creates the stack of speakers. I have simulated, set initial state on the tags and baked all...so now i want to create a plain effector to animate up and down to make them bounce in a toon like manner but when I add the plain effector the rigid body tag with the baked dynamics seems to override it. Does anyone know if this is possible to do or if i'm stuck. My original plan was not to go this route but I was asked to add a bounce, this seemed to me like the best route but i seem to be stuck at the moment. Thanks, Cory
  13. Hi, Please can anyone share a paper scene or shader with a similar setup to the below link: http://strictlypaper.com/blog/?s=yum I have tried searching for the tutorial which this appeared in ( digital arts issue 09 ) does anyone have a copy or know where I can locate it? Hope someone can help thanks Ben
  14. Hi Folks, Here's the setup: I'm making a paper looking globe by putting a slice of sphere in a radial cloner object, and then fanning it out so that it creates a globe. This all works beautifully until I try to combine the fix texture option with animating the start and end angle of the radial cloner object. What I'm trying to do is attach a map texture to the cloner object, so that when it's fanned out completely, the individual segments of the cloner have the image of the map spread across them. I'm using spherical mapping, and that works well, and looks how I want it to (img. 1). The problem comes when my globe fans from shut position to full globe position. Once it animates in C4d, it maps the globe texture to each individual segment, not as a globe overall (img. 2). For some reason, the texture does stick and work properly if the globe is animating from full globe to shut position. The problem with that is I need it to go from shut to open. I'm banging my head against the wall here. Any suggestions? C4D R11.5 Project File: http://www.mtinley.com/previews/tinley/Paper_Sphere.c4d
  15. Hi Guys, This is my first post on here so I hope its in the appropriate place. I've been trying to replicate the effect found on the breakdown of a piece posted on Greyscalegorilla, here's a link: Basically I want to replicate the third shot in the breakdown where a bunch of cubes fly out, it looks like under the influence of a plain effector, while splines remain attached to the cubes at one end while anchored to world zero at the other. The splines all have spline dynamics and move and wiggle convincingly based on the movement of their respective cube, gravity, etc. The only way I've been able to make this work is by manually animating each element, and this video leads me to believe there is a way to automate this process through mograph, just haven't been able to make it work. Any advice on how to achieve an effect like this as mograph-automated as possible would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  17. This was brought up in another thread, but I thought we could expand on it here. How big is the mograph community? USA and global? 500? 5000? Has anyone seen any real data on this lately? And no, I don't know exactly how to define this (if they use AE, # of C4D licences, etc...) because I don't know how whoever may have collected data on this has defined things.
  18. I'm trying to get random UV offsets on the textures of clones of a mograph object. Basically I just want to offset the layered noise I have distressing these clones' texture. What am I missing here?
  19. Hey guys, so I've got a a bunch of small objects grouped together to form a logo... In this group I also have a light rig illuminating the front of the logo. What I'm trying to do is drop this group into a cloner to use the spline effector to animate the logo. My problem is that when I drop this group into the cloner (I set number of clones to 1) the lights in the rig are no longer affecting the object. Anybody have a clue as to what is going on?

  21. Hey guys, I just posted a new tutorial on School of Motion. I show how you can use the Time Offset feature in Mograph to get some pretty elaborate animation without a whole lot of hassle. Hopefully it will give you guys some cool ideas. It's a pretty versatile trick. Transformer Effect with Mograph Hope you all enjoy! joey

  24. I am currently working on an animation of an asteroid field, I have a 150 asteroids I have created by putting a single asteroid inside a cloner object and then using a single Random effector to disperse them, rotate them, and randomly scale them. I would like to have each asteroid rotate and randomly move as if being blown around by some some of solar wind, but I cannot figure out how to do this... how would I go about injecting a little x and z motion into the asteroids and a little random rotation?
