  1. I would like some feedback on a piece my company made a while back. Any and all criticism welcome. Thanks!
  2. Hey Guys, I'm looking for a little guidance in getting better motion in my work. I use predominatly After Effects and have started my journey in C4D (I am a previous Maya user so just transistioning over). I sometimes feel I fall short when animating due to the motion I produce, it doesnt always look the best, sometimes amateurish. I'll look at a piece of somebody else's and it will be amazing, the motion will be fantastic. I'll then try and recreated the said motion myself but with very poor results. I find it very frustrating. Having pondered this for sometime I realised I was negelected the Graph editor due to my poor understand of it. I understand its purpose but don't particularly know how to use it. I did come across this site today and have found it an enormous help to understand interpolation - However I need something better. I need more teaching perhaps. Some articles, video, tutorials, book? I want to learn how but also why. Could someone please point me in the right direction to a better understanding of this. I know its the foundation to great animation and I am a little lost. Thanks Liam
  3. Before I begin, I'd like to add a disclamer- I've used Adobe products at companies for years with few licensing problems that I can remember. I work at a university, teaching design. A student purchased a CC license for home use but has had major issues getting the license to work. She's contacted Adobe a few times-one of which times was at uni while I watched her speak to online support. They said it would be resolved in 3 days. We're up to 3-4 weeks. I've personally written and tweeted to various Adobe accounts/addresses myself, including Todd K that posts on this very board. I have a lot of respect for Todd, because his posts all over the web (not just here) are very informative. That said, this is too long and we're trying to get Adobe to respond, with no solution in sight. Other students have purchased licenses and had it up and running in minutes. It seems sad to me that this person is getting punished for attempting to buy software legit. So, if you've had similar experiences how do you get them resolved?
  4. hey everyone, I don't know why it's taken 6 months to post here, but I'm in a terrible rut and I need some help. Any feedback, leads, tips, advice, empathy, anecdotes, etc helps. A few months back I moved to NY from california, right after finishing school: studying motion graphics — quite successfully (deans list, valedictorian, etc.). And since then it has been somewhat of a nightmare trying to freelance and find bookings. A friend of mine has helped me (a ton!) find at least two or three bookings, which have all been very successful. But other than a few sparse lucky chances, it's been dry. Too dry. I don't know where to look, whom to e-mail, or how to get my foot in the door. So my question is, what piece am I missing here in finding work? I'm still super new, and obviously have a lot to learn and work to build up my portfolio, but I work really (really) hard and I have a great attitude. Those latter words don't have any weight, and I just don't know how to turn them into bookings, and portfolio pieces. It's super super stressful not having any work — seriously, the stress and anxiety have begun to take their toll — but I'm just not ready to quit. here's a link to my reel/portfolio site: http://hellopatches.com/SPRING-REEEEEEEEEEEEEEL thank you!!
  5. The Following images are what I have so far modeled. It is a Bolex camera. Please do a quick google image search on what the camera looks like.I am having trouble modeling the body correctly I get close but i am not as skilled yet to know everything about cinema 4D. From what I know I am having a difficult time modeling the body. The little levers and such are not a problem its just the main body. I have gotten as far as having a hypernurb object that somewhat resembles the shape but not quite right. I was wondering if anyone knows of any controls in cinema 4D that could be helpful. I am going to be playing around with point selection and beveling in the meantime. google search for Bolex

  7. Hi, i want to ask you guys what you thin k about my showreel. A bit of background. Five years ago i started to work as a digital designer, but in the first months i became a kind of digital designer (web) flash animator/motion designer, regarding the of job the accounts give me. Now i´m thinking to move country (to uk) and also try to find a job in the motion design industry there, or at least a job where i can do some motion design, since its what i would like to do everyday. I have compiled the showreel, my first one, to send to some recruitment agencies that i have contacted. In the reel, i have only put motion work in it, and none of the flash/design (web), since my goal is motion design. What to ask you guys, a sincerely opinion about it, so i can improve my next reel/work and dont do the same mistakes in the future. Reel Link: https://vimeo.com/51882462 My portfolio: http://www.danielgomes.tv Thanks for your time
  8. Hello, If you have the time and don't mind throwing your email address in a pot to win some free booze then please help me out by voting for me in a competition. I've been nominated as a wildcard for an award by TimeOut for my creative work. I am an animator and art director and have made some sequences that you might recognise, this being my favourite. https://vimeo.com/34652952 So if you have a minute I would be very grateful if you could throw me a vote, especially if you remember and like that sequence. Here is a link to the voting page, find my name, (Lee Jacobs), click the button next to my name and then scroll to the bottom to register the vote. http://www.thehospit...00/nominees.php Huge thanks and apologies for the self promotional post! Thanks, Lee
  9. Hey guys, I am very new to this, hence I am just going to put it out there.. I am doing a course in VFX and 3D animation, which includes maya, nuke, boujou, after effects (keying, roto, tracking etc) but not many plug-ins usage... Optical flares, Trapcode is stuff i learnt on my own.. Now my course is coming to an end and they have recently introduced motion graphics as a 3 month course for an additional amount to be paid.. I am still in the making of my demo reel though just with the knowledge of keying and tracking I wouldn't land a job I want... My main concern is do I need to do this course to learn motion graphics... or will I be able to learn cinema 4D and other tools by myself...? I mean, I do not have a starter point... Also what other plug-ins do I need to go through to learn motion graphics and where do I start from? Secondly, What kind of a job am I looking at if I want to work majorly with motion graphics? Any advice or guidance is welcome... I hope you guys can help me out here... Thanks, Saaniya
  10. I'm looking for a spot or any reference where the floor or ground is invisible. I remember seeing a spot where a low angle camera was looking up at a city through an invisible ground or glass plane. The result was an interesting look on life - people and automobiles were moving above as iff to be floating in the sky. Any ideas?
  11. I am trying to make it so that both set of joints work together to unravel the object. The animation would show one side unraveling before the other. Can I use the mesh deformer maybe?
  12. Hey all, I am trying to create a Ribbon Banner that are seen in quite a lot of logos. 14. I animated dusty elements in flash and am trying to export the quicktime out so I can bring it into after effects, but the export from flash keeps screwing up. What it's doing is that it will pick a frame and it will hang on it. The whole animation will play through but that one frame will get paused and stay on while the rest of the animation plays through. Does anyone know how to fix that? Better yet, does anyone have any good tips for a flash/after effects workflow? Using flash and after effects 5.5 - both files are set up for 24fps. Only have 24 frames animated in my flash file and it's on an alpha. Have tried an animation codec and png sequence codec in the export. Thanks! EDIT: Nevermind, I've figured it out.
  15. The balloons are dynamic but in the editor it looks fine. When i preview in render its fine. but when i actually render it out it goes haywire and not render balloons fast enough or something not sure whats the problem.
  16. OK i have SSS turned on but there is no reason i can think of why it is flashing the texture on and off. Any thoughts? Same frames Render fine when i Preview them in editor window.
  17. Hey all, Using Cinema 4D I am trying to re create a ribbon type banner (an example of what I mean can be found here : http://i.imgur.com/k7zMU.jpg )The best way I could think about creating this simple shape in Cinema was to just use a plane and a Symmetry object, but I seem to be having trouble. Whenever I add the plane (that I have converted into a polygon object) to the symmetry object I get this extra continuous piece of geometry that appears, and I can't figure out why. Here is a picture of a before and after of me putting the plane into the symmetry object : http://i.imgur.com/cuZYQ.jpg Does anyone know why this is happening and how I can stop it? Or am I doing something terribly wrong and there might be an easier way to create this ribbon banner effect? My goal is to create the banner and animate it sweeping on and then off again from the right side to the left. Any tips and tricks in creating this effect would be greatly appreciated. Hope someone can help, Harry

  19. Hi all, I have no jobs at the moment and I'd really want (and need) to do some spec work/personal projects to get better and pump my reel. The fact is: my creativity seems to kick in only when it's time to solve some problems, otherwise I feel totally demotivated and stuck. Like blank canvas syndrome I would say. I've been through this forever; I spend my days pumping up my software knowledge (tutorials, etc...) but when it's time to come up with something "mine" I'm stuck and frustrated. Some days I feel so lame and dull, geez... [/EndOfWhining] Any suggestions? Am I crazy talking? Is it common somehow? What's you way around it? Thanks. You could even give me some problems to solve to help me. If you wish. Thanks.
  20. Hey there, I'm relatively new to the site - I believe this is the correct place for this topic, but if not, let me know... I was wondering if you could offer any advice or pointers on where I might be going wrong here - my brain just cannot seem to function at the moment, and this problem is really bugging me - it feels like it should have a simple answer... I've been playing with the idea of a video wall / cube, and have attempted to apply video clips to portions of text. In my previous tests, simply applying a rigid body tag would make the portions fly apart due to the fact they are already so close together as a built portion of text (almost like a shatter, but very chunky and blocky) presenting the video clips as the chunks spin and twirl into the air. However, I'd ideally like more control over this - In my test scene file, this happens on the first frame - I'd like to delay the effect (collision / shatter?) as well as be able to have some sort of degree of force or power with which the chunks would be flung apart from each other. I've attempted to play with Explosion FX, Explosion and Shatter - all seem to produce shattered 'flakes' and not let me force blow apart the chunks I've already created (unless I'm poking around in the wrong places) I've also tried to see if Particle Affectors have any use here - and can't seem to get the desired effect. I've linked to a very small sample clip from an earlier test render - hopefully so you see the idea that I'm trying to describe: http://vimeo.com/34889831 the password is: forcetest (For some reason I'm unable to see an option for attachments on Mograph.net) I'd be very grateful if you'd be able to at least point me in the right direction or offer any ideas that you'd have to help me along, Kind regards,
  21. I wanted to ask if there was another way to bend the object other than bend deformer. I am having a problem where i want a rectangle that is curled up to uncurl in segments rather than a whole. Does anyone have any advice? Like if a rolled up piece of paper starts to uncurl soon as it gets out the tube.
