Position Details: We have an upcoming freelance/contract-based position for an experienced 3D modeler and texture artist specializing in organic and animal forms. The position will begin in early July and will run for approximately 8 weeks. As a 3D modeler you will be responsible for creating virtual animal-based characters, as well as creating and applying their final texture assets. You will be breathing life into sketches and concept art. You will be working collaboratively in a team with other talented artists and technicians. You must be well versed with industry standard 3D modeling programs and tools. Good spatial skills and a well honed sense of design will help you succeed. Responsibilities: Create and manage digital assets Interpret concept art and sketches to create virtual characters, environmental elements, and props Follow design guidelines, asset naming conventions and other technical constraints Prototype and iterate on models and characters based on feedback from team members Optimize, refine and correct model geometry Work with artists, animators and programmers to execute projects on time Create textures and UV maps Keep abreast with the latest developments in 3D design, capture and modeling tools and technologies Requirements: Expert level knowledge of 3D design and animation tools such as Maya, Zbrush, Mari, Substance Painter, etc. An eye for detail and good visualization skills Ability to take feedback and make changes as required Fast and efficient Experience with Redshift Render workflow Familiarity with animation techniques and pipeline Good communication skills Minimum 3 years of experience in 3D design and modeling MUST be local to LA as this is a short-term position, no relocation or remote work possible. Purpose of the Job: The primary focus of this role is to continue, develop and advance the Motion Graphics and Animation capability of Affixxius Films and produce Animation and Motion Graphics-based projects both in full and alongside other members of the post-production team. Main duties and responsibilities: Post Production: Producing Motion Graphics and Animation projects both in full (i.e. handling entire projects) and in part (i.e. supplying Motion Graphics elements to other film projects). To contribute to larger 2D and 3D projects alongside 3D artists, compositors and editors by supplying assets or animated elements for smooth integration. To be fully involved in Research and Development work where new techniques and styles are being attempted as a result of creative requirements. Competencies Required: A superb knowledge of appropriate Animation/Motion Graphics software including; After Effects, Photoshop and illustrator. Knowledge of editing software, Cinema 4D or Element 3D would be an advantage but not essential. An exceptional creative flair and ability to work with subject matter of a very wide variety. An ability to communicate directly with clients before, during and after projects. A willingness and ability to be part of a team. Strong organisational and communication skills (written and verbal). Strong administrative and time management skills. Experience: Ideally we are looking for a candidate with at least 3 (three) years experience in the creative industries within a similar role. Hatch Studios is looking for a motion graphics designer in the Toronto / GTA area, Canada. There are some projects coming up that I may need some assistance with and so I'm starting to look for intermediate level designers. This would be for freelance and / or contract work. The artist might have to work in-studio, remotely, or perhaps both (it will depend on the project).
