  1. Hey guys! I just finished this new 3d animated side project and thought about sending it over for y'all to take a look at :) I had a lot of fun putting it together! I’m a little scared sending it out into the world but, I thought I would give it a go and see what happens. That’s how everyone learns right? So, hopefully you have the time to take a look at it. Thanks for your time! Vimeo link: https://vimeo.com/315812004 Full project link: https://www.behance.net/gallery/75969173/BEYOND Project Details: Beyond is a side project I created to push myself creatively. I actually don’t really like sci-fi, or know too much about DC or the Marvel universe. Every year, I try to give myself one large side project to improve technically as well as in my storytelling skills. I saw that creating something from a source that already exists while using a look and feel I don’t feel comfortable using as a huge challenge. After some research and seeing the cool stuff people where doing online, I remember how much I loved the animated series Batman Beyond as a kid. That was the spark that led me to think, what if I created a “fake” trailer for a modern take on Batman Beyond while using subtle indications from the show? It was definitely challenging but with some small personal victories along the ride :) I hope you enjoy my work as much as I had creating and diving into this world! Software: Cinema 4D / Octane Render / X-Particles / Daz-3D / After Effects / Premiere / Photoshop / Illustrator My Béhance profile: https://www.behance.net/craigpinto Twitter: twitter.com/_craigpinto Website: https://craigpinto.myportfolio.com/
  2. Hi my name is Alonzo Nelson. I'm trying to start up my career as a freelance Motion Designer/Video Editor. I've been doing mostly local video editing work here in NYC using Premiere Pro CC 2018/19 but it was not on a professional level just on a "handshake" deal with no contracts or invoices and I want to start making myself into a professional Motion Graphics Designer. I use mostly After Effects & Premiere Pro (both 2018/19) for the projects and gigs I get. My goal by the end of 2019 is to have a website showcasing my work, a demo reel (with mostly internet tutorials lol) and a social media presence to market myself. I'm in the real early beginning stages of this endeavor I've been doing a lot of research this month watching Roberto Blake videos on YouTube, taking notes on how to start a side business, reading blogs on PremiumBeat & Motion Array, etc. I have a primary job with a hectic schedule, I don't get paid much but I do have health, dental & a 401K so that's not an issue. My goal is to start off small with a steady amount of clients and when I feel the business is in a good position I can reduce my hours at my regular job and put in more hours on this. My first priority is to buy a new work station STRICTLY for the purpose of creative work. I like the Apple ecosystem so I prefer to stay in that lane and not go PC. Here are the specs on my current work station: 13-inch, Mid 2012 MacBook Pro2.5 GHz Intel Core i516 GB 1600 MHz DDR3Intel HD Graphics 4000 1536 MB1 TB SSD storage I've been doing some research on the Mac Mini 2018 over the last 2 weeks and I'm looking to buy it in the future. I use most of the programs in Adobe Creative Cloud but I mainly use After Effects 2018/19 & Premiere Pro 2018/19 is a close second. Here are the specs I want to get for the Mac Mini 2018: 3.2GHz 6‑core 8th‑generation Intel Core i7 (Turbo Boost up to 4.6GHz) 8GB 2666MHz DDR4 Intel UHD Graphics 630 1TB SSD storage 10 Gigabit Ethernet What do you think? Is this enough for a guy like me who is saving money and just getting started trying to become a professional Motion Designer/Video Editor? Also how much do I start charging since I'm just starting out? Revisions? Even though I was doing local video editing work unprofessionally how do I determine how much revisions is too much? Do I charge a flat rate or hourly? Contracts, Invoices, Taxes, business bank accounts, etc I have so many questions and did a lot of research up to this point I'm nervous & excited to start this journey but I want to do it right any advice for me? Thanks in advance to reading this long message...

  22. Hello all, I'm very new here, and new to the community in general. I wanted to post my reel, to see what people thought, understand where I'm coming from, but also use it as a chance to introduce my self. I'll post it now, so and blab afterwards: A little about me: I studied film and video production in college, with every intention of being an editor, and down the line becoming a director. When I graduated, I had a rough time finding a job in the area I lived, and would spend half of my day sending out resumes, and the other half trying to learn something that would give me an edge: AE and C4D. I had used the programs in school, but there were no classes offered in the mograph world, nor animation(in the film department), so I had always been self taught. Fastforward, I've now been working about 3 years in the MoGraph industry for the same tiny studio, constantly trying to throw in freelance where I can to offset the tedium of the "tech explainer videos" I make daily. I would love any thoughts you have on how the reel is structured, the content of the reel, and to just to get to know people in this community. I just finished Binky's series on building a reel, and I already have a feeling mine breaks a couple rules (especially length). Speaking of length, I'll stop talking now. Cheers! -Alex
