  1. Attached is the OBJECT BUFFER MAKER SCRIPT. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwzRH1iZPQnsTlU1WlBsZ3BXQXc/view?usp=sharing It makes Object buffers for all selected objects in a scene, names them and adds them to the render settings with corresponding sequential object buffer information. This will save tons of time in your workflow. Developed by RUSS GAUTIER at Perception Studios NYC. TO USE IT: Just copy or merge the python object into whatever scene you want. Then select the objects you want to make buffers for. FINALLY click on the RED "X" next to the python object. It will IMMEDIATELY Turn Off After You Click It and will have MAKING COMPOSITING TAGS, OBJECT BUFFER IDs and MULTIPASS Outputs for all your selected objects. Enjoy!

  5. Hi everybody, I’m looking for some advice on a new mac purchase. I need a mac primarily for design, editing and 2D/3D motion graphics but also everyday use. I also need a monitor as I’ve been using a MBP retina up to now. So I’m thinking of getting the following: imac retina 4.0GHz Quad Core i7 (turbo boost up to 4.4Ghz) 32GB ram with AMD Radeon R9 M295X 4GB GDDR5 Which will be fine for most tasks (I’ll keep my laptop for team render) but no Nvidia = no CUDA. I have a big shopping list of things I’m continuing to learn but pretty soon I’m going to want to try GPU rendering, almost certainly using Octane as it seems to have the biggest take-up of any GPU based renderer. I know I probably should get a PC at this stage, but I’m kicking and screaming against it for many reasons which I won’t detail here. My question is once I reach that point and assuming Open CL take up is still some time away will I be able to connect an external chassis, power unit and a 2-3 Nvidia/cuda cards, connected to my iMac retina over Thunderbolt 2? At this point my limited understanding melts my puny brain. I have all kinds of concerns about cooling/blowing up expensive graphics cards and I have no idea if this is even possible over Thunderbolt 2. Maybe the data will be too much to handle through a single thunderbolt connection. Will the iMac recognise the cards connected in this way, will Octane be as responsive as if it was connected over PCI? etc etc… I’m sure a lot of freelancers/small studios are also pondering the future of GPU rendering using macs so any help is really appreciated before I waste my dollars on a grand plan that won’t pan out. Like I said, I know a Windows PC makes the most sense but I’m looking for a mac only solution. Many thanks! Oliver

    RegionKing

Hello Dear Mograph-Folks, I have just released my new Tool RegionKing. RegionKing helps with the process of Shading/Ligthing and Rendering. You can define a RenderRegion in the Viewport and send them to the Renderqueue with one Click. Later you can recover any State of your Scene after you have choosen the best Version. Very unique and fast Workflows are possible with this little nifty tool. I hope you find it usefull. Store: http://www.c4dstuff.com PromoVideo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yf0ybWbPVqY
  7. Hey guys, I've got a bit of a problem in vray. I'm rendering a scene with a sphere that's got a advanced shader and a displacement material. I've set up my vray settings with GI + AO, colour mapping & environment. As well as my multipass settings. And my C4D render settings using the post-effects in my multipass settings and zblur. The problem is that when I render out my scene, my geometry disappears!!! I've been able to isolate the fact that if I delete my displacement tags the geometry renders out correctly (but then the geometry looks naff) And if I delete my post-effects/multipass in my C4D render settings it renders out correctly (but then I have no control in post) Is there anyway to achieve both in vray? Has anyone else had this problem? C4Dr14 + vray 1.2.6.2 Cheers, Dane.
  8. My type is smooth in the viewport, but when I go to render it's not smooth...? Anybody know why this would be happening? 9. Hi, I would like to create this texture for an object which has a noise pattern in the color and luminance, but I want it to look the same size no matter where the camera is. Is that possible? Noise from too close looks awful, and from too far is not visible, I want its dots to be always the size of 1 pixel. Thanks, Pau

  12. I am rendering a scene that uses volumetric lighting, I know this always significantly increases render times, but does anybody have any tips for optimizing your scene/tweaking lighting/render settings to get volumetric lighting with as fast of a render as possible? Any tips would be infinitely appreciated. Thanks!
  13. Hey guys, I'm working on a design for an athletics promo and been playing around with some renders... I want to do a really dirty AO kinda look, as haven't got the time to uv map lots of stuff and seperate bakes... heres what it looks like at the moment and you'll see what i mean... I'd like to keep that really dirty look but when i animated the camera it flickers LIKE CRAZY... any way to stop this and somehow bake the entire scene... kinda liek a maya final gather freeze map... though things will be animating so not sure how possible this will be... basically I'm just rying to minimise the flicker as much as possible so i can have nice dirty corners. Even if there was a mutipass work around after i get it all animated and over to AE to mess around with, composite etc... Any thoughts or solutions or similar experience? scene: http://i39.tinypic.com/35hnspe.jpg settings: http://i44.tinypic.com/34t4j7m.jpg Cheers! Cheers!
  14. I'm currently working on a project that has me rendering lots (as many as 96 passes in a single render) of image sequences out of After Effects over and over again and repeatedly creating all the folders required to keep all this data organized is both tedious and a pain in the ass. I'm sure there has to be a way to automate this but don't really know where to begin looking. I'm looking for something like the FOLDER SETUP script Adobe puts out that does basically the same thing in your OS. Sadly for this project I need a Windows XP compatible solution, but I mostly work in OSX so anything would be helpful.
  15. Hello, I've been putting together a simple model and rendering it with Cel Renderer, to give me the wireframe look I'm after. I'm now at a point where I'm adding light trails throughout the model, but obvioulsy can't render these using Cel Renderer. I'm compositing it all in After Effects and want the trails to look like they're inside the model. Does anyone know if there's any way of rendering an alpha/matte multi-pass or the like that I can then use in After Effects to get this look? The only other way I can think of is doing a lot of masking! Thanks for you help! Kev
  16. http://secure.newegg...Number=27840688 My main questions are: Is 128 Ram overkill, currently I am just going to start with 64. I can foresee it being awesome for preview purposes in AE I have read that your power source will loose its potency as years compound of 24/7 use. I would say my computer runs 120-130 hours per week currently but that is a 4 core machine. So with this machine I am at approximately ~650W needed so I am going with 800 just to be safe but also wonder if that is overkill. Is SLI really necessary for video rendering? I like using only 1 screen so I dont see why I would really need that but its a cool upgrade option. Thanks for your feedback in advance.

  18. I'm sure many of you have had this thought before, but I was wondering if there is a resource where different rendering techniques / effects / plugins have been tested in After Effects to find the most efficient way to work. I am aware that this may be easier said than done, as things vary greatly on your hardware, software and project setup but I always wonder things like.. how much time does a complex (or even simple) luma/alpha matte add to the render time? how much does applying layer styles as opposed to an effect in AE affect it? does pressing CAPS and hiding the composition view really save render times? what are the optimal encode settings for pre-rendered footage? I'm not really asking somebody to answer all of these questions for me, but I was wondering whether it would be worth my time extensively testing these different options, or would the results only ever reliably apply to my machine with my current setup. Or maybe somebody has done it already! J
  19. Does anyone know of a way to turn off anti-alias for certain objects? I have imported a few Fireworks PNGs into my C4D project and when I render it out, the PNGs look soft or blurry. I've had this same problem in After Effects before and the only way to correct it was to turn off the anti-alias on the Fireworks PNGs in After Effects. Any ideas?
  20. Hello, I have a 12 core Mac Pro and Cinema 4D 13. When I render I see and feel the machine is not giving full access to Cinema 4D to the processors (I can still do a lot of things while rendering and the render takes its time). I have checked with the Activity Monitor what is going on and I seen that the green is not up to the roof as it should. Screen grab Activity Monitor : www.philipstudios.com/signature/question_01.jpg I went into Cinema 4D and went into preferences to see what option do I have. Screen grab Preferences : www.philipstudios.com/signature/question_03.jpg By reading the help it seems I should disable the Adapt Thread Activity (which I did, but it did NOT help the speed in any way). Am I missing something ? How can I convince my Mac or Cinema 4D to used all the processors at true power ?
