Position Details: We have an upcoming freelance/contract-based position for an experienced 3D modeler and texture artist specializing in organic and animal forms. The position will begin in early July and will run for approximately 8 weeks. As a 3D modeler you will be responsible for creating virtual animal-based characters, as well as creating and applying their final texture assets. You will be breathing life into sketches and concept art. You will be working collaboratively in a team with other talented artists and technicians. You must be well versed with industry standard 3D modeling programs and tools. Good spatial skills and a well honed sense of design will help you succeed. Responsibilities: Create and manage digital assets Interpret concept art and sketches to create virtual characters, environmental elements, and props Follow design guidelines, asset naming conventions and other technical constraints Prototype and iterate on models and characters based on feedback from team members Optimize, refine and correct model geometry Work with artists, animators and programmers to execute projects on time Create textures and UV maps Keep abreast with the latest developments in 3D design, capture and modeling tools and technologies Requirements: Expert level knowledge of 3D design and animation tools such as Maya, Zbrush, Mari, Substance Painter, etc. An eye for detail and good visualization skills Ability to take feedback and make changes as required Fast and efficient Experience with Redshift Render workflow Familiarity with animation techniques and pipeline Good communication skills Minimum 3 years of experience in 3D design and modeling MUST be local to LA as this is a short-term position, no relocation or remote work possible.   3. At http://www.cc0textures.com/home you can download free textures and materials. " Free PBR materials, no attribution required! " (PBR = Physically based rendering) Currently they have 97 materials. They're high res and the preview images look quite promising. Haven't tried them myself yet.
  4. This is the "missing manual" for getting started. If you want to learn the basics of Octane materials and how they work without doing endless reading, just follow along and quickly learn. It's everything we wish we knew when we started with Octane. Answers to all the initial questions we had about setting up materials and tags. This will demystify the ins and outs, the settings, and the "how do I's."
  5. General C4D texture management question ... I frequently have this issue where, upon re-opening a project file, many of the textures cannot reconnect since they are inside lib4d packs (GSG textures, for instance, but Motion Squared 'Texture Pack Infinite' materials specifically). Am I doing something horribly wrong? I can't get inside of the lib4d files to relink the missing textures ... I've found that saving the project (collecting all of the assets) resolves this issue, as it copies the material's source images from the lib4d file to your tex folder, but I don't want to save a new project w/ assets every single time I grab a material from one of these packs. I've been asked to recreate the effect seen here, as a way of displaying showreel videos. http://www.jakemathew.com (It's the video 10, the cubes) Here's my attempt so far: https://www.wetransfer.com/downloads/f40ac65b12908440f2fb04f554065da820130807010636/99a4d9b51767d05b329a69890c29afa320130807010636/4771bb In this example he uses the sound effector I think to drive the movement/extrude of the cubes. I'm trying to achieve essentially the same thing but with the extrude of the cubes driven by a mograph shader effector. Then I will use a multi shader texture to map the textures over the cubes. My method seems a little flawed as I am using the shader effector to non-uniformly control the Y-Scaling on the cloned cubes. This gives two problems: 1 - The cubes scale in both directions - not from the base 2 - The cubes textures stretch over Y - which looks ugly. Looking at his example the textures on his cubes seem to stretch the pixels of the cube edge. Whereas in my version the entire texture is stretched in Y. This makes me think he used a different method to achieve the result. Can anyone shed any light on how he achieved the effect? Or alternative ways to go about this? I've reached the limits of my (limited) C4D knowledge and would love to know how to get past that last 10% and get this finished. Thanks!

  8. So if I have the words "Lets Go!" in Motext and I desire that "Lets" is in Green and Go is in Orange. Would there be a way to setup this with little headache? Or is it one of those, it has to be made editable to be able to do this. Reason being is I have the text flying in with a plain effector and its just so easy right now to not have to change up anything. Thanks for any input. Cheers!
