pokeitwithastick 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2006 This can be prohibitively expensive $7,000 - $15,000 typically. Try to get in touch with the artist direct if you can, they can often give you clearance to use it if they like what you are doing. If you go through official channels it is always muchos dineros. Often easier to pay someone to compose something origional.

jaan 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2006 if it's a smallish label, then keep in mind that they are usually run from a home office and have about 1.5 employees... so a polite letter spelling out the details may be enough to get the process rolling. if it's a big label/subsidiary, prepare to be completely ignored. Guest spence Report post Posted October 27, 2006 From what I've been told it's often best to contact the artist first. Sometimes they dont own the rights, but you'll have better changes talking to whoever does own those rights if you have the blessings of the artist. Colin@movecraft 0 Report post Posted November 3, 2006 I like to use manatune.com... very small small label and the usage rights are typically 50-500 bucks. The artists get half. Seems pretty fair even though they don't have a huge selection and most of it is guys and girls in their basements, but it is leaps and bounds better then "royalty free"
