foughtthelaw 2 Report post Posted December 16, 2006 Until recently I'd been hosting my site through Abnormis.net. About a month ago they were hacked and the dude that did it basically crashed all their servers and apprently completely crippled their set up. It's been a month and I haven't so much as gotten a single reply from them and I'm now looking to switch my hosting service. so I as you..... with a portfolio that's almost entirly dependant of video.....what do you guys use as a web hosting provider? pixelthief 0 Report post Posted December 16, 2006 been with dreamhost.com for 3 years now and have zero complaints. I only paid for the first year... I keep getting a year for free for referring peeps. So... you know, feel free to give me the referral if you go w/ them as I'm up for renewal in January you'll find lots more threads/recommendations if you hunt for them. Guest Sao_bento Report post Posted December 17, 2006 ditto on dreamhost. good deals and few hassles. had em for years. Dreamhost is good. If I had to switch, I'd probably just go the Media Temple route. A point that has been made before is that if you use your website to get business, don't shop for hosting based solely on price. Cheap and slow hosting is no better than no hosting. Make an investment in your future and hook up with someone who can really get the job done. walk don't run 0 Report post Posted December 17, 2006 I'm happy with dreamhost, they've been down maybe once since the whole 2 years I've been with them. Before that it was lehost.net, they were terrible.

the_fuzz 0 Report post Posted December 18, 2006 i've been with dreamhost for three years now with no problems. media temple's pricing is more competitive now so they're definitley worth looking at though some people have had problems with their new grid server. i think most of that is just migrating over so you should be fine setting up fresh with them. juicysauce 0 Report post Posted December 18, 2006 If reliability, speed and customer support are your priorities: go with Media Temple. This is especially true if you get a lot of traffic. They host Motionographer and, after a few hiccups when launching their new Grid Server, everything has been just peachy for me. Their customer support is rad, too. Quick and very informative. I still use Dreamhost for my personal sites. (I host eight sites with them now and have been a customer for about four years, I think.) If your priority is cost, they're the obvious choice. mikeh64 0 Report post Posted March 9, 2007 I know zero about the technicalities of web hosting, I thought maybe someone here might know this answer... My current hosting provides me with a unique, static IP address. I am thinking about moving to MediaTemple, but they do not offer a unique, static IP with the grid server plan (it is some sort of dynamically assigned-on-the-fly thingy). Does it matter? Are there pros/cons to static IP vs some dynamic system like MediaTemple? Just looking for basic hosting, nothing fancy - except maybe a little PHP forum or a blog. mike
PlayingKarrde 0 Report post Posted March 9, 2007 Don't really understand why people think being hosted by Media Temple is something to be so proud of. Not suggesting people on these boards do, but I know a lot of designers proudly display the MT logo on their site as if they are in some cool designer club or something. I realist this branding is most likely due to getting discounted rates, but even so. Personally, i find MT to have very limited features which is the main reason I didn't even consider them. Instead I'm hosted with Cyber Host Pro and have a reseller account there.
ClintVideo 1 Report post Posted March 9, 2007 I go with a ministry-based hosting service because they don't allow porn or other garbage on their servers, which I like. There's no reason I would want to support a company that's helping supply that filth to the net. Cf
mikeh64 0 Report post Posted March 9, 2007 Well, mediatemple seems to have happy customers here, thus my interest. No, I don't think MT's a cool club, and I won't put their logo on my site if I go with them. Back to my original question....is a static IP for your site important or not?
