graymachine 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2007 (edited) If youre going and show up at Bridges Media Group, ask for KGB and say hi I'll be teaching (I think) an "Intro to Maya" for mograph artists on the 27th. Stop by and say WUT UP. And I also believe that the AE class on the 26th will be instructed by mograph bella Michele Yamazaki, from Toolfarm. Michigan, REPRESENT!! I'm gonna think about going, a Maya course would be nice. If youre in town the night before, stop by and grab some drinks and foodz. We usually have a ton of people here. djkorova 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2007 Guess I am going! Any Chicago folk have hotel suggestions?
KGB 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2007 (edited) I'll ask around. Hotels are too damn expencive lol.... I heard Amalfi is pretty good... but I think the prices might be even higher there...(edit: seeing under 200 per night on some rooms, thats not bad i guess) It will however put you close to Michigan Ave. Area downtown and close to the events. Same generally goes for the hotels near the "magnificent mile" area of Michigan Ave... look around there. I'll let you know if I find out anything... djkorova 0 Report post Posted January 18, 2007 The CMGF07 website suggests the Congress Hotel but from what I've read the workers are on strike and you have to cross their picket line to get in the place. I think I'm staying at the Hotel Blake. Seems pretty nice, not too expensive, and close to the Cultural center where the screenings are.
KGB 0 Report post Posted January 18, 2007 I think I stayed at the Congress Hotel before. If I remember corrrectly, its pretty old and ghetto, but the price was good. Im sure picketlines are no problem, there must be a bunch of people that cross it every 10 minutes....it is Chicago after all :-)
graymachine 0 Report post Posted January 19, 2007 If anyone is taking the Maya class at CMGF, PLEASE email me. I am making up my syllabus and course content this weekend. I'd like to find out: Any experience (if any) you have with the program. What areas you would like to focus more or less on: interface navigation, poly/NURBS/sub-d modeling, particles, dynamics, shading/texturing lights. How you would plan to use Maya in production.. ie. broadcast design, character animation, visual effects, etc. I'm just trying to get an overall idea of my average student. It is described as a "Master Class", but from what I understand, it is mostly to consist of people with no Maya experience at all. MY experience is concentrated in the broadcast side of things, which is what i am hoping to focus on. Benjamin Budzak 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2007 Haha if I didn't have class the day of the AE class I'd go (damn Columbia)...but yeah the Congress has picket lines, and they used to be huge...now its like 1 or 2 people tops...and Lou Malnati's pizza is one of the only reasons I still live in chicago ...If they had Lou's in Los Angeles, I'd move in a heartbeat hehe... She taught the AE class that day. I'll make sure to have an 'alias' badge so people know who the F I am next time.

Well, I think both of you are out of towners, but I'll make sure to invite you to the next party over here. djkorova: yea, I work at bridges. The person youre refering to is Chris Robins. He's our creative director. I think he spent the bulk of the party at his computer lol. I was showing people around as well, but was all over the place.
