I know nothing about Art and Science of Digital Compositing, but Amazon lists it as having been released in 1999. Doesn't that make it a bit outdated???

Just wondering if it's still relevant.

Guera - regarding fxphd, which course are you referring to?

i'll second the steve wright book.

he explains the actual math of compositing in a way that's understandable to people like me who aren't math whizzes. understanding how pixel values change through various compositiing operations will help you make better composites.

his explanations are also written in such a way that they apply to any compositing app although you'll have the easiest time following along in a node based compositor like shake.

the edition i have is from 2002 but the only critical thing missing is working with hdr*.

* and how many of us have done more than just play with that?

No- the ideas and concepts in this book are theory, not software or hardware specific. It deals with the way we see, and the ways we can create believable images. This has not changed drastically since 1999.

yehhh Mr Cookie!!!

It is a good reference mate. I just got my for AE 7.0 yesterday... looking forward for CS3

Hmmmmm..

On my Amazon order:

Updated Delivery Estimate: January 7, 2008 - January 18, 2008

But on flowseeker:

Word from Peachpit Press is that Amazon has not received delivery of the book and their late-December estimates are merely a CYA maneuver

- they should receive (and begin shipping) copies by the end of this week

Wait and see
