Skate Baghdad!

Recommended Posts

Ah it's good to be a post-surge engineering contractor:

"Last week, a Los Angeles-based holding company for equity firms, C3, confirmed it was starting a $500 million project to build an amusement park on the outskirts of the Green Zone in an area encompassing the Baghdad Zoo. The first phase, a skateboard park, is scheduled to open this summer.

"But any Green Zone project is literally starting from the ground up.

""There is no sewer system, no working power system. Everything here is done on generators. No road system repair work. There are no city services other than the minimal amount we provide to get by," Karnowski said."

wait a minute ... an amusement park where there are no sewage systems?

why not build housing or infrastructure to assist those living below the poverty line?

you can commercialise/brand housing too right?

I think the 500mil pays for necessary infrastructure too. Still though... I don't understand the logic of jumping all the way up to building an amusement park when there's nothing there to begin with. It doesn't seem like a top priority need.

Maybe it's an attempt to make the area more appealing? I dunno. Just seems bizzare to me. I'm with you Ratbaggy about the housing, that seems to make a whole lot more sense. Maybe there are a lot of kids in the Green Zone that have nothing to do and they don't have places to gather. Maybe they're creating a safe and needed gathering place for the kids? I dunno much about the green zone. I wonder if google satellite maps show Baghdad and the green zone.

Wow. I didn't know Halliburton built skate parks.

"H-Street" was really "Haliburton Street". "Shackle me not" was actually an inside joke about Abu Ghraib.

The good news is that all those troublesome renegade Iranian-backed Sadrists are finally losing the will to continue fighting - the light at the end of the tunnel is in sight!

http://www.strategypage.com/qnd/iraq/articles/20080428.aspx

Or maybe Prime Minister Al-Maliki is trying to use American help to crush the Sadrists militarily because he knows they will probably win the upcoming Iraqi elections?

http://www.zmag.org/zvideo/2649

And while the Americans are arming the largely Shia government, they have also been arming Sunni groups

http://rawstory.com/news/2007/US_confirms_...gents_0610.html

Not a fan of conspiracy theories, but maybe the Bush team has a cunning plan to organise the start of an all out three-way civil war in Iraq to coincide with a new US administration

give them a better target, have a nice tragedy, make a point of saying there is still no secure area in Iraq... YAY! another 10 years in the desert.

not a fan of conspiracy theories

because "conspiracies" don't usually happen. people don't act in their own best interest, in small cliques. and everything that was ever worth knowing has been made known by mainstream magazines and tv

conspiraces generally dont happen, enron didnt happen, iran contra, german reichstag fire, watergate didnt happen, government conflicts of interest, CIA overthrow of a bunch of leaders didnt happen

and because the warren commission, investigation into MLK, 9/11 commission didn't have loads of incompatible evidence, major conflicts of interest, and massive direct benefits to certain parties, who were the same people that had the position and power to pull off the crimes and manipulate the investigations, if they conspired - which of course they wouldn't have

and because our tv and magazines got the story right the first time, and would have done stories if they heard otherwise, because they are truly pure unbiased uncoverers of truth, even when it comes to biting the hand that feeds them - whoops, look who owns the media

it seems like its generally only acceptable in western society to attribute conspiracies and devious plotting to arab terrorist groups, but not ruling cabals who have HUGE amounts to gain by stacking the deck this way or that.

I think it DOES happen some of the time is all, and if it happens some of the time, people should at least ask questions until half-assed psuedo-investigations and revisionist history are all that were left with as we continue on with the tragic history of post-WWII america

sorry for the rant - PM me with your hate mail

The majority of the world has been saying that since this whole fiasco began.

This skatepark thing reeks of the way the Romans built coliseums in every God forsaken hell hole they conquered just to keep the masses entertained and placid.
