"delayed write error" w/ external drives in window

just in case you guys have ever had this problem, here is what i have discovered in the course of fighting with it over the past month or three:

1. when buying a drive or enclosure, make sure you get one with the oxford 911 or 912 chipset

2. avoid the bytecc enclosures

3. use USB 2.0 instead (this is what i ended up doing)

4. google for a firmware update for your drive/enclosure

5. go into your drive properties, then click "hardware", then "policies," and choose "disable write caching."

this error really pissed me off for a long time, and i almost ended up throwing away this goddamn $200 drive i got a while back before realizing that USB 2 was an option- lo and behold it worked like a charm.

hope this helps someone...

EDIT: the title is supposed to say "windows" not "window"
