C4D Material Selections

Ok, so when I texture extruded objects, I use C1, C2, etc. Are there similar designations for primitive objects? For example, on a tube? Is there a way to texture selected sides without making them editable? I've gone through the manual but there isn't even mention of the C1, C2 thing, so it's not very helpful.

Thanks all. The problem is, I'm using tubes, and animating the slice property, so if I use a spline, I lose the convenience. It's all good though, I got around it with some tricky-dicky lighting.

Use an extruded arc spline, with type set to "segment", and you get the same options as slice in a tube (so long as you don't want a fillet)

For parametric tubular construction your other options include:

 

1) Sweeping a Rectangle Spline along an Arc

 

or

 

2) (perhaps too obvious) simply throwing a Rectangle spline in a Lathe NURBS.

 

I can go on...
