[REQ]Quantum of solace Titles Qt

Recommended Posts

anybody knows if there is a Quantum of solace title sequence Quicktime online yet? I can only find the bad youtube one.

not yet (that i know of), I think MK12 have to wait 6 weeks after the film premier before they can even talk about their involvement with the film (something crazy like that anyway)! So there should be a good version online in about a month-ish. Keep checking back with motionographer.com around that time :)

From the movie on YouTube, the opening titles seems tastefully done.

Yeah, but also somewhat boring. Perhaps a bit too much "back to the roots". I liked the ones for "Casino Royale" much better.

I see what you're saying about it being a bit too "roots" and perhaps not enough new life being brought to it, as well as the pacing being a little long in the beginning before it starts to pick up a bit. I was not really a fan of the CasinoRoyale titles as it felt a little heavy on the AfterEffects trickery, and some of the shots being pretty cheesy. One thing Solace does that Casino did not is really focus on the typography. Casino's was definitely a lesser priority.

I haven't seen the new ones yet but i am glad they got back too the roots, where i liked casino royals titles, i did not like them for casino royal as a bond film, they could have been titles for a bourne film or any movie relating to fighting and playing cards. If that makes any sense.

The nice fellas from MK12 give a thorough rundown on their "Quantum" work (open + interface stuff) last week at the Pause conference in NYC. The final title sequence is nice, however, the two completely different motion tests they showed (from the initial pitch and a mid-progress version) were GORGEOUS. Simple, clever, and a great update while paying homage to all the previous titles.

Keep your fingers crossed that they surface on the MK12 site when they post the project.

I felt like the Casino titles were good only in comparison to what had gone before in Bond titles. At least they played to what I think Mylenium is thinking of as Bond tradition, but if they were done in 2006 they still only showed the best of what motion graphics could do circa 2001. Just way behind the times. It seems like the MK12ers were really into that volumetric particle effect that stood out in films like XMen 2 and Harry Potter / Order of the Phoenix (http://features.cgsociety.org/story_custom.php?story_id=4225, bottom image).

I was also at PAUSE listening to the guys from MK12. I agree that their initial motion tests were far superior to what the final output was. I still think it was a great effort from those guys.

They also showed, in detail, Bond's interactive table at MI6, amazing process with great motion and planning. I thought their style fit very well with the Bond franchise.

Could someone explain what they mean by saying that the initial tests were better? In concept? In motion? I'm generally a fan of less is more, live action over graphics, strong typography, and a tight edit, which is why Casino Royale felt a bit over the top to me. I suppose the director of the film has more say in this than the company creating it. At any rate, it will be cool if mk12 shows some early tests, I regret not making it over too Pause before the Kosinski/Romanek talks that day. How do you guys wake up so early?

In their initial motion tests they had way more creative input before the film execs made more decisions . The concept was similar, women, desert, sand, etc... But the motion was really nice, they hand more interesting transitions in the motion tests. Not over the top at all.

agreed that the casino royale titles felt kind of flavor of the month even at the time

in the theatre i dug the titles a great deal, the intertitles and the style of photography

is there any chance some of the pause talks could be up online at some point?

The titles were a little bad at first viewing, but after multiple viewings, I think it has a nice retro charm and was not overdone. It brings the elegance expected from the Bond franchise.

For the record, I was a bit turned off by the wonky compositing and incredibly fake looking cg bullet and dust particles. But I recognize that some of that fits with the retro style of the title screens.

I'm not huge into type, but it was tastefully done and interesting without being distracting.

I really enjoyed the titles, but thought that the super-computer-interface was hilarious. Can someone point me to this future where government departments hire design firms to make gorgeous UI's full of superfluous detail for their top secret super-computers? Or can someone arrange an interview for me if these are done internally?

I'm kinda on the fence about this.

I partially agree with raven52321, the "wonky compositing and incredibly fake looking cg bullet and dust particles", ruined the entire movie for me!!!

I also felt that the look as a whole was a rehash of what mk12 had done earlier. eg. 'Hot Hot heat'.

I'm refering specifically to the color palette.

I did like the intertitles though. Nice touch.

I loved 'Casino Royale' titles, it was a complete point of departure from all the earlier films.

I believed it fitting for a franchise trying to reboot itself. But now, with 'Quantum', they

just reverted back to the tried and tested stuff. In short boring!

Oh come on! just some eye-candy to make it entertaining, also no terorists make their own Font , and definitely its not realistic that he meets two girls, the daughter of a dictator from a third world country and an "office" employee from an embassy and they both look like supermodels.

I enjoyed the titles for Quantum. They definitely got better towards the end, but I enjoyed the color palette and the typography was great. A few times I felt like I lost my place in it all with the transitions and such, but all in all I thought they were well done. Really curious to see the motion tests from Pause that everyone mentioned.

I also get to see them again for free...fire alarm went off with twenty minutes left in the movie, so I'll be back later this week to finish it up with my free pass. Really sucks that it went off towards the end 'cause now I have to sit through the whole thing again.

I dug the titles for the most part, the color palette was handled wonderfully and there were some great shots. MK12 has had ups and downs but I've always been impressed with their sense of design and creative transitions. And while I thought they certainly were conscious of good design, the transitions felt rather rushed, at least for MK12 standards.

I haven't seen the movie (or the titles) yet, but I can already understand why the tests would be better than the final output....it's called "STUDIO EXECUTIVE INPUT" They love to dumb down everything from the concept to the colors...very rarely do they let the creatives do their job without interjecting nonsense..."Hey, how about we put a unicorn in this main title sequence??? I really think that Unicorns say a lot about the word "Quantum"...you know...quantums are a magical horse, and so is a unicorn!"

Yeah...sorta to that effect.

I thought they were pretty good. Not nearly as bad as I expected with all the negative comments.

IMO, main titles don't have to recreate the wheel just because they're attached to the front of a badass Bond movie. they can just be cool...and not the super duper most fantastic most cutting edge graphics in the world. I liked these better than the Casino Royale titles...but that's just me.

Actually, after I have seen the movie on the weekend I must say that the titles are better than I thought. There's a lot of fine details that get lost in the small snippets available online. Still a bit too conservative for my taste, but quite okay-ish. As for the music - I guess it depends whether you ever liked the "Stripes" or not. Quite typical of their style and Mrs. Keys is pretty much wasted on that song...
