ultrus 0 Report post Posted April 2, 2009 http://www.sebastiencannone.com/ so damn great – without words. just wanted to post in the Reel-section but I have no rights there to post (?) Anyway. In this reel is this footage burst-into-particles-effects for a few times? How might he get that.... Let's discuss! Boo whoo... have to watch it one more time... so great

anothername 0 Report post Posted April 2, 2009 Wow a great reel. He cuts to the song really well but I think we can all now say that DVNO is officially the of 2009.

RAZ 0 Report post Posted April 2, 2009 I too would like some more insight into this reel. Very impressive stuff! And as a rule I'm pretty sure Justice's entire Cross album is played out...

The reason is that if posting in there wasn't limited, we'd end up with most of the posts currently in "Showcase" being in "Reels and Portfolios", which goes against the concept. P.S. - You're right though - that is some really good stuff.

monovich 0 Report post Posted April 2, 2009 Yeah, DVNO is definitely played out. Amazing work though. true, but I think everyone else should strip the track from their reel and let this guy have it. amazing work.
ultrus 0 Report post Posted April 2, 2009 (edited) so many great shots for sure... but now just focussing on this particleburst..... my 1st guess: matchmove and rotoscoping.... then map the rotoscoped part of the image on a 3d-geometry and convert+destroy that geometry with a TP-Setup. What do u think? Edited April 2, 2009 by ultrus

dan_hin 0 Report post Posted April 2, 2009 that's a lorra lorra well shot action footage, for starters. I'm guessing a lot of that could have been keyed out rather than roto'd. I'm in awe of the compositing in all that stuff, and the editing is unreal. However I always preferred Genesis (not the band!) to DVNO. Roll on Deadmau5 for the next 5 million reels... undream 0 Report post Posted April 3, 2009 The breaking geometry scenes are done with rayfire tool, which uses max dynamics tosimulate physics and fumefx to simulate dust (/gasous fluids) Other gasous particles are done with afterburn/fumefx. Do not be depressed. These things are a lot more achievable (did I spell it correct) these days.. If you have chance to play with 3d studio max (with the plugins I just meant), go try your chance, I'm pretty sure you'll get something that satisfies you. Some time ago I found a guy that makes experiments with these tools, here are some of his links: http://www.vimeo.com/2796018 http://www.vimeo.com/2719391 http://www.vimeo.com/1318695 http://www.vimeo.com/1929876 Also, another opinion about the particles coming from the ball, and from the bicycle scenes: These can be done by fusion, with a little bit struggle. Fusion particles are strong enough to handle these kinds of work. The problem is, most of us (here) are c4d people; which is (right now) an impossible tool to make "simulations" in all kind, especially particle simulations like fluids and gasous fluids.. I believe thiese things will be solved by some 3rd party (like dpit) or by maxon themselves. I believe this will end up a lot easier with c4d. All we have to do is, to be patient ^^. Think how mograph made everything easier for us. P.S. I just noticed. Last part sounds like morpheus: "I believe, it is our fate to be here. it is our destiny"
Dr. Jim 0 Report post Posted April 3, 2009 2nd'd on the MAX plugs, They can handle that. I do debate the use of FumeFX for the smoke trails, and turbulent, nebulous trials following the sports balls and such. Some of the particle clouds look so heavy, I would consider Pflow and Krakatoa as a much better way to do it. Ofcourse, many ways to skin a cat. Deifinitely not, but if you can stay awake for a long time with full 100% brain usage; I have a great suggestion to you (which I do recently) Open 2 video tutorials at the same time: pan the volume of video 1 to left, video2 to right. Place the vide1 left, on your screen, and video2 right. You can learn 2X faster even when not looking the videos (just surfing, etc) That works for me. Close to a memory stick. magictea 0 Report post Posted April 4, 2009 matchmove and rotoscoping.... then map the rotoscoped part of the image on a 3d-geometry and convert+destroy that geometry with a TP-Setup. I dont think this is something you could achieve with C4d dynamics, as far as I know thinking particles dynamics is based more around particle proximity than complex geomatry interactions. Also you'd have to inherit motion from the keyframing to get the right look, again not sure TP can handle that maybe in the hands of a guru. Maybe you could get something similar with a lot of work in post adding extra particle passes VT overlays etc. I was thinking maybe reactor in MAX but rayfire certainly looks plausible as well. Anyways nice reel, "shattering" is the new liquid simulation I guess.
