C4D. How do I duplicate an object (or group of objects) without duping the shaders?

Recommended Posts

I've got a very simply modeled tree with two shaders on in a group. Every time I dupe it it dupes up the materials.

Ctrl drag in the object manager what you want to duplicate.

are the materials actually being duplicated?

in other words - are new materials are being added in the material manager? You understand that the material "tags" on the object itself are only referring to materials in the material manager (they are not materials), right?

Regardless whether it happens or not, which I don't think it should be: you can remove duplicate (or unused) materials with one click in the function menu of the materials manager (that looks weird to type, is that what its called? I should really know that).

I only found that out not too long ago

Yep, I realise the tag issue.

I didn't realise there was a remove duplicate shader function which is useful.

It's all a bit strange really.

But it's all fine, I now have a few work arounds!
