Numerical Keypad for MacBook Pro

Recommended Posts

I love my new MBP, but am really missing the numeric keypad. It's essential for Ae work... can anyone recommend a solution?

There are cheapo USB ones on amazon, and apple store sell a bluetooth calculator style one...

Do they work with After Effects?

Would I be better off with a full keyboard?

Yeah, its a shame about the limitations of the mbp keyboard when using AE, especially with the later mbp models that remove the function keys that corresponded to the numpad. There is an alternative that i've been using though, and this might help:

Check out KeyRemap4Macbook (http://osx.iusethis.com/app/keyremap4macbook)

It allows you to remap keys on your macbook pro and has settings for older style macbook pro keyboards when there wasn't so much shit on the F1-12 keys. I have mine set to use the function keys like they were on the aluminum macbook pros from back in the day, so you hold down the function key and hit M on the keyboard and get "0" on the numpad, etc. Check it out and see if that works for you. Otherwise you'd be better off getting a full keyboard with numpad, but apple doesn't make any wireless versions of it so you'd be sacrificing both portability and elegant cable management. Good luck.
