A technique that has stumped me! Pseudo 3d?

Recommended Posts

Hey there. If you look at alot of these there is not perspective change in the photograph. This can be done with a relatively simple but time consuming process. If you start with the photo, you need to cutout all of the elements you want to space in 3D. Then in AE you can use the psd to 3D script from AEnhancers.com . What this does is create an expression that scales each layer based on the distant to the camera. This way there is z-space separation between the layers, but the photo looks the same. Tip: stack your layers in photoshop from foreground to background to make the process easier. When you animate your camera in AE, you should try to move in pushes and dolly moves to avoid exposing the fact that there is nothing behind some of your layers. Inevitably there will be gaps and your next step will be to go back into photoshop and paint in the missing parts from other areas of the photographs. Finally you can add the movement of the subject by using the puppet tool in conjunction with mesh and bezier warps. There is also the new 3D warp tool in CS5 that may help as well. Hope this helps and let me know if you have any questions

thats excellent use of the puppet, liquify and simple keyframe (position, rotation and anchor point) manipulation in AE. It's images pre-comped and set into a scene using a 3d camera to transition between the photos.

Andrew Kramers plugin will help in the transition process:
