vector meldrew 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2011 I have been asked to write a short piece on motion graphics trends for 2011. Although some may cringe at the term 'trends', i was wondering if anybody had any opinions for the sort of styles or techniques that we expect to see this year? iline 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2011 Dirty Balls. Trapcode 4D stroke. Flaming skulls (cloned instances) a la Ghost Rider which have rigid body physics with Realflow blood gushing from the nose holes.

beckmanvfx 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2011 dynamic shiny balls amongst procedural vines driven by dynamic motors attached with dynamic hinges.
silatix 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2011 unnecessary objects falling from a source and landing on a floor.. and sometimes going back up again. can a trend be a plugin? yes (trapcode shine 5 years ago).. now its mograph/dynamics

iline 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2011 Yeah, shiny balls are yesterday's snow. We've got hinges, suspension and Connectors to abuse relentlessly now. But anyway, hopefully my future clients are unaware of Nick Campbell otherwise I have to spend countless hours replicating HDRI spheres interacting with other geometric objects in a horizonless environment... (no offence Nick, we love you) Maybe... 3D models that use complex procedural textures and displacement, animated by care and skill by someone given a long deadline, an hour for lunch and still enough time for cuddles with the gf in the evening....? For God's sake, someone pay me to make a f#kin dinosaur bursting out of the sea with fluid dynamics, displacement mapped scales, mocap data taken from a sock puppet on my hand, 32 bit colour, EXR files, render farms with 1000 cores, or at least an abstract scene that is actually an abstraction of conscious thought.... oh my, maybe I should be working at ILM instead of a design buro... IMO, the graphics that are cliche are made by people that are cliche.
ragecg 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2011 I've believed it since 95', and I still believe that Reflective Checkerboard Floors, and scenes made entirely out of Lens Flares are the wave of the future. This reflective and flary Utopian world will save us all:)
mete_shop 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2011 Resurgence of clean abstract vectors. But with a touch of three dimensionality. Oh, and even more lens flares.
silatix 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2011 Every trend we notice while it occurs becomes tenfold the following year.

the_Monkey 8 Report post Posted January 13, 2011 Booo. Nobody has a real prediction? Maybe not in 2011, but everything coming points to handling larger amounts of data. 1) New ways to render and manipulate point clouds 2) Multi-Layered video/data capture in consumer products (allowing development for fx based on camera position, orientation) 3) More/Cheaper Lidar/MoCap hardware (pretty much anything flight404 has been doing with their xBox Kinetic hacks... check them all) -m

mete_shop 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2011 Monkey, we've got a guy at Hornet trying to work on some kinnect hacks. Hopefully we'll have something before Motionographer becomes inundated with point cloud virtual music video antics.
mete_shop 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2011 Oh and I wasn't kidding about the lens flares: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfiCqYuC4W8
adam 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2011 I'm wondering if lens-flare and gradient backlash will be as severe as it was back in the late 90s-early 00s, or if people will be a little more forgiving this time. I remember back when I was in school, use of either = instant chastisement

I remember back when I was in school, use of either = instant chastisement I remember joking with a colleague in about '97 or so that we should start using lens flares again and try to bring them back. Little did we know!

ConstantMotion 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2011 2011. Clients will be enquiring if you can make it 3D. So they can watch it with the glasses. Less shiny spheres and more shiny torus knots. Everyone will be building virtual Rube Goldberg machines. The death of handheld camera effect.

Fred Camino 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2011 (edited) We're already starting to see this, but I think we'll see a lot mograph in 2011 making reference to "touch" – the way we interact with touch screen interfaces. Lots of fingers or invisible fingers touching, swiping, pinching, flicking and otherwise gesturing and screen elements reacting in the ways we've grown accustomed to. C-FU 0 Report post Posted January 14, 2011 I think the wave of the future is going to be Mograph thats smells. When you see a jolly rancher made in 3D. Boom!!! Saliva begins with the smell of watermelon trickling up your nose. Think of it. Bubblegum aroma triangles bouncing off each other to the sound of hip disco. Can you imagine the possibilities. Slight off topic. WHen are they going to introduce Cameron's 3D technology to porn? Now that will become a hot mess of a expensive trend. 3D boobs jigglin. Yeah!!
