daveglanz 0 Report post Posted February 11, 2011 Pro: you'll likely have more creative control. Con: you'll set a precedent of being a designer that works for very little (with this client, at least).

anothername 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2011 The pros/cons of taking on a job for a fraction of quote to build show reel? Let me hear it! For my 2, good clients let you do good work regardless of budget, working at cut rates garauntees you nothing but headaches. If you really want to build your show reel do a personal project for free and do whatever you want.

I find if anything lowering rates makes the client/shop respect you less, more likely to jerk you around, and to be indecisive with their decisions. Hamilton 0 Report post Posted February 13, 2011 ProBono work usually allows for maximum creative freedom as do PSA's. Plus because they tend to be a serious issue or service its a good exercise to bust the creative envelope and still give a message professionally. Every employer loves to see volunteer or community work on a resume so consider it something like that but in our field, lol Speaking of, does anyone know of the studio in Chicago that does almost all their ad work for clients who are non-profit? I saw them showcased in a Communication Arts way back and could never find them again.

geauxmuse 0 Report post Posted February 15, 2011 (edited) Thanks to everyone that replied. I offered the client something relative to their budget, their reply..."that might work, we'll be in touch." Edited February 15, 2011 by geauxmuse
Hamilton 0 Report post Posted February 15, 2011 Hamilton, was this that place in Chicago you're talking about? http://www.see3.net/ See3 doesn't ring a bell and I didn't notice any work examples that looked familiar either. Mind you it was awhile back and I can't imagine to many studios like this in Chicago. Thanks for the post.
JamesDohertyEsq 0 Report post Posted March 3, 2011 I know that situation.. No time to do as much personal project stuff as I'd like so I'm willing to take a hit on the money I make if I get to do something that I really like. Wouldn't do it if it was for somebody that I thought was gonna be an awkward client though..
