C4D R12 Motion Vectors

Recommended Posts

Just started working with R12 and the motion vector pass is not right. Did it break in this version? Since there's nothing to set besides turning it on I am at a loss to what to do to fix it. Anyone else experiencing problems with them?

Thanks

Hey Mr Shake - check your 'Motion Scale' in the render options. The default (128 I think) has always worked for me but it might be that your scene needs different values. The manual isn't super helpful here, they basically say "If you get the number wrong, it won't work - good luck!"

Also if you're using SPD, you need the latest update to R12 whatever that is.

Cheers -C

You can usually specify which colour is which orientation, so as the render should be RGB=XYZ, if it's not, just change the colours in RSMB, Nuke or whatever blur application you're using. I know for a fact that you can do this in RSMB as I had exactly the same problem last year, but never again since then.

I believe something simple is altering the outputted orientation in the c4d scene, post a scene file if you fancy us having a look.

I've been having the exact same problem, although it must be a setting because on some machines it's ok.

It's definitely an issue in the pass itself, where the angle or direction is completely different than the actual motion.

But it's more of a shift, than a complete axis movement.

Sure, i made a super simple project to illustrate the problem.

This is what the blur SHOULD look like:

This is what it looks like when using the motion vector pass from C4D:

This is the raw motion vector pass:

Here is a link to the c4d project: http://shake.com/temp/m_vectors_bug.c4d

In case it gets corrupted on d/l here is a zip with the same file: http://shake.com/temp/Archive.zip
