Cinema 4D Cloth dynamics: clothes in a washing machine

Recommended Posts

Hi,

So I am attempting to simulate clothes tumbling around in a washing machine. I'm having the usual trouble with cloth, whereby it intersects itself like crazy, even with self collision on. I've upped the sub sampling and iterations but it is still all over the place.

Any advice for C4D cloth dynamics? Even if it is 'don't bother'. I've never been able to get any satisfying results with the cloth engine.

Any thoughts welcome.

Marnie.

That sounds like hell. I wouldn't do it. Once cloth objects intersect, unless your dynamics error margin is tiny and the step size set to 50, they explode into compter-jamming chaos. You'd want a lot of repulsion between the objects to stop the intersection happening in the first place, and the objects to be as lowpoly as acceptable (but you know that already). Keep the stiffness and flexion damping high, if the animation result is acceptable.

If you describe what you need, people can offer suggestions of ways to cheat it. But as with most cg forums, if you're asking questions that hardly anyone would attempt, you won't get much in the way of response...

yeah id make some crumpled clothes, then stick them into some low poly cages which i would use with soft body tags, and simulate that way.

but as mentioned, depends on what you are trying to show.
