Prometheus UI Sketches

It's got some holes in the story, but I wouldn't go as far as to say it was a "bad movie" - particularly in light of the last two (three?) decades of American cinema. Regarding the work this topic is about, it's par for the course, but I would have really liked to see them try to make it seem in-context, given that this is a prequel to Alien. Alien had a really cool port-potty-at-the-county-fair aesthetic that made it more authentic feeling. The mess hall scene was very counter-utopian. These delicate displays seem really out of place in a vehicle that was constructed by a big corporation mentality for use by disposable contractors.

Saw it today & I thought it was really well done & unique.

Loved the clean look & the sets & the sections with holograms of engineers & the geo-scanning SPECTAGRAPH!

Definitely left a lot of questions unanswered & a movie that was made to have a sequel.

Riddley confirms possible 'Paradise' sequel: http://www.mtv.co.uk...sequel-paradise

Wednesday, 13 June 2012

Prometheus director Ridley Scott has hinted that there could be a sequel to the hit sci-fi movie - which could be called 'Paradise'.

The veteran director told The Hollywood Reporter: "From the very beginning, I was working from a premise that lent itself to a sequel.

"I really don't want to meet God in the first one. I want to leave it open to [Noomi Rapace's character Dr Elizabeth Shaw] saying, 'I don't want to go back to where I came from. I want to go where they came from'."

And the 74-year-old filmmaker continued: "Because [the Engineers] are such aggressive f**kers, I always had it in there that the God-like creature that you will see actually is not so nice, and is certainly not God.

"I'd love to explore where [Dr Shaw] goes next and what does she do when she gets there, because if it is paradise, paradise cannot be what you think it is. Paradise has a connotation of being extremely sinister and ominous."

Just saw it. Gorgeously shot. First few minutes are like cinemaporn, with lots of beautiful things sprinkled throughout the remainder. This UI stuff is just so standard by now though. Overly concerned with itself, making big LOOKITME flashes and glitches and WATCH ME DO THIS COMPUTERY THING! I totally get the urge, as someone charged with making an element (UI) in an ensemble visual project (Film), to want to make it as cool and WOW-y as possible, but it just doesn't help. And all of that technical animation just makes the UI feel slow and broken. Why are there grids and lines and errant pixels all over the place? Why is it so slow that you can see the redraw processes? Why can you see the underlying geometries of this and that? I mean, the rest of the ship is super polished. This isn't the dirty, malfunctioning, worn-in future of Bladerunner. And this isn't an abused and aged mining vessel like the one in Alien.

Fully agree about the plot holes. Interesting theories abound in regard to the themes of the movie, and in theory those themes drive the plot. But it's driven so questionably, and with so many unexplained motives leading to loose ends and... gah... it's just kind of a mess all by itself.

This is pretty fun, though. And the first two videos at the bottom are pretty entertaining.
