Creating a grid of masks on a layer

Recommended Posts

Are you able to use an Alpha/Luma matte?

If not, copy and pasting from illustrator might be your best bet, using a blend in illustrator.

Couldn't use a matte because I was animating pieces of a precomp.

I'm guessing you're in AE so:

Perfect! I ended up doing it by hand but that is really helpful!

Assuming you want the boxes to be grid of cubes.

1) Create a single cube spline or frames in illustrator or indesign.

2) Use distribute function in illustrator or indesign.

3) Then import the spline doc into AE as a comp.

4) Select layer with the masks.

5) Replace illustrator/indesign still with footage/precomp/layer intended.
