Shooting stop motion

Recommended Posts

Working on a short personal project, this will be my first real attempt at stop motion. Anyone have much experience with this? I'm thinking I'll shoot it with a nice mirrorless camera, but cranking out a bunch of 24 megapixel raw files seems like major overkill. Is there a best practice here?

Just set the file size (pixel dimensions) on the camera to a smaller size? Or, don't worry about the size and change it all in your video editor/compositor.

Larger files will give you more options (zoom/pan/crop etc) when you're editing.

Well stop motion since everything is pretty baked in/planned out, you could shoot at a resolution of something like 1920X1080 or 2-4K to allow a little repo, but you don't really need all the extra resolution, unless you have a scene where you very specifically want to maybe shoot it wide and then punch in for a close up.

This software is great for stop motion work http://www.dragonframe.com/
