Storyboard Brushes

Recommended Posts

Hi Carey,

Thanks for sharing your knowledge and process! It's always so great to be able to look over someone else's shoulder. I really learned a lot especially from the 3rd video!

As I was watching the storyboard process, what Photoshop brushes are you using? I try to be more digital, but I don't really like the standard pencil brush in Ps. The way yours are so well laid out looks like it'd be a huge time saver!

Look at you, brave soul, venturing into the emptiness of mograph.net :D

A while back I was watching a concept artist doing these amazing paintings, thinking I'd love to do that, and I had that same thought of "oh, I gotta get my hands on his brushes cuz that's where the MAGIC is, BRO! Can't do it without those brushes!" And he'd repeatedly say "it's not about the brushes". And of course everyone who watched wanted to know about his tools and brushes, so he finally gave in and made them available, and I grabbed them. And the set was even organized into numbered groups in a clever way, so props to him. But I never use them! They're fashioned from his process, not mine, and that was his whole point.

So in all honesty, I just use a plain ol' brush with the hardness set to 0 most of the time, and I size it as needed. I use that for painting masks, adding light spill, you name it, that's almost always what i'm using. Exciting, right? RIGHT, BRAD?!!!! CAN YOU HEAR ME? Oh I forgot, this site is dead. ;)

Haha yeah, I was reading it for a while but its way too much info to retain. I felt like it was MSN Messenger again... Great resource though but not for my weary eyes! :)

...and bradmagnus would never again be seen to return to that empty place.

THE END

Hahaha! I forgot to check the email notification to this post! I checked back a few times before you responded and well then a whole ton of other stuff happened including doctors and ER trips for the 3.5 year old... But anyway. Thank you for taking the time to respond! That number organization though...

How do you get an invite to the slack group?

I think he just made brushes out of images of the numbers, and organized each category/row of brushes so that if you had your whole palette set to a certain width, they'd just all fall into place with the number brushes on the left, etc. Kind of an organizational hackaround.

And you can join the slack by heading here... http://hashtagmotiondesign.com/

But I think a real person has to find your submission and get you in, so it may take some repeat submissions and waiting.

The slack is good for some things, but I think we're all finding out that it's not so great for a lot of things, and the activity has tended to die down a bit.

Long live Mograph.net!!!

I do wonder if there is any form of slack integration into the forum? On what level I have no idea but that would be cool!
