It seems like you guys are defending this work just to defend it.

It's really weird.

Yet what I find interesting is in the Stardust thread they were getting ripped and practically no one was defending them.

The whole thing is just ironic and backwards to me.

i don't think the argurment is whether or not its good design. i think the point here is that this guy, whoever he is, has a steady stream of clients who dig his work. he seems successful in what he does, and his clients keep coming back.

we can rattle off principles of design all day, but this is how we make a living. and the bottom line is that the only way to do that is to keep clients happy and coming back.

I remember being 16 and riding to HS with a guy who was ripping apart another guy's wheels. The car he was on about was a near-perfect late-70s Camaro. Meanwhile right next to that car was an Escort. I asked the guy, why are you spending ten minutes smack-talking about the cool car while this other car sits without you saying a thing bad about it? Clearly it's more worth ripping, no? He gave me one of those typically high school 'as if' looks and there it sat. But it's a situation that never goes away.

It's like this: some people love the ego-boost and challenge of talking at the level of their betters. It's not a challenge to talk about the Escort like it is to talk about the Camaro. When something is nowhere near the level of Stardust for example nobody wants to take it seriously because the work represents no challenge to the ego.

Put another way, while you looking at Stardust's work you get carried away thinking you're Andre making Andre's decisions. Like Jorge Luis Borges said, at the moment of reading Shakespeare every man is Shakespeare. You look at someone mediocre, and you can't imagine being that person--it's repulsive, so you don't even want to talk about it, or if you do you rip it. At least when you're young.

Later you realize that everyone is probably seeing what you're seeing here: it's not very good. But since you're pretty sure everyone sees what you see, nobody really has to say it out loud, and those who do are like George Costanza on that episode where he kept saying the things that were unsaid but understood. That's why I called myself the asshole. I let the decency slip worse than anyone, and I'm still sorry I did.

Sorry guys, it's like a disease. I can't be brief. I was coming back to shorten it but too late.

what in the FUCK is wrong with an escort? a fucking camaro... goddamn rednecks... each and every one of you.

stardust sucks. absolute motion graphics sucks. i suck. you suck. we all suck, because, and let me say it again... THERE ARE PEOPLE DYING HERE. D-Y-I-N-G. no amount of motion graphics, good or bad, is going to cure that.

but seriously, a little respect to the land guppy and those who own them:

Guest George.

Props to the guy i reckon, he has skills to pay the bills and knows the programs inside out (maybe moreso then alot of poeple here). Although the work may not be up to date design wise and may not appeal to the broader audience that visits this forum - his work is solid none the less.

And it has already been said a million times, he probably does have his regular clients, etc but just because his design isn't upto date with what some of you guys consider 'cutting edge' doesn't mean he is any less qualified to do the job.

art is subjective - eye of the beholder - so I am sure there enough people out there who like his stuff and will continue to like it.

Main Point

*Stop Hating - offering critcism that isn't constructive aint helping noone.

I could not possibly disagree with eveything you said any more.

I keep seeing words mentioned like "cutting edge" and even "trend whore", whatever the hell that is supposed to mean. What about just GOOD DESIGN. Forget trends and cutting edge whatever bs. I'm talking about someone's skills as a designer (which is what motion graphics is, motion graphics DESIGN).

Being a trash man pays really well, but you still smell like shit when you get home from work.

Giving an honest criticism of someone's work does not make you a hater. Just because someone isn't always playing mr. nice guy doesn't mean they are hating. Ted gave an opinion like it or not.

Just like i'm giving mine.

I'm also really upset right now because I have a deadline in in the morning and I have a lot more work to do and i'm really tired haha.

So let me get the hell of this board my render is done.

Ted you're a real bastard for finishing early goddamnit.

-peace

seriously doubt this guy's rich. Dunno where that came from. If this guy can charge $100 an hour, there are some seriously lost clients out there. But whatever, if they are happy, and dude's getting away with it, more power to him. He still isn't a good designer, nor will he get my respect for 'designing his life' or 'being in the business for ever' or 'maintaining happy clients' or whatever other crap u wanna gloss over his poor design ability with. I'm not hatin on him, mostly on the soft edge of some of the people here. Get an eye will ya! This work is NOT solid. I'm done being angry. Like nxtseason, it was a rough week. Feels good to be done tho. Hang in there dude!

Why do we waste 3 pages replying to this type of work, and 1 page or less for the good work.

Ive noticed a recent trend on mograph.net --good work gets 1 page of comments, and so-so or bad work gets 3 pages of comments but not always.--why is that?!!

Cuz it makes us other guys that suck feel better about ourselves. Where's the fun in posting three pages worth of, 'I love your work!'

There is a place for cheap bad work. But it doesn't belong here, being respected. See how soft you guys are getting? Get some balls.

I'm scared.
