How do you animate an eraser look onto a number of layers al

I have a composition which has a number of animated drawing layers. In the end of the animation sequence I need to create the effect of an invisible eraser swipe across the drawings a number of time thus causing them to disappear. I'm not sure what I need to do? Use a mask, an effect? Any help with this would be greatly appreciated! :?:

I would imagine After Effects' Vector Paint would do the job quite nicely. You could probably precomp all the layers, and apply the effect. There's a couple of settings as far as recording strokes or frame by frame animation, so, experiment away.

remember that erasing is letting the background show through. if your background is blue, why not draw on some of the same color blue and it looks as if you are erasing.

this way you don't have to precomp.
