How do extract precomp layers in AE?

I've precomped layers that I now need to edit, but they were precomped earlier in the process and now I can't just undo or use history.

How do I extract these layers to edit them?

i just copy and paste them back into the "main comp". there is a bug if you drag select in ae, it paste's in reverse order, so you have to manually click the 1st layer and click down 1 by 1 until you have all the layers you want selected.

You can also select the bottom layer and Shift-click the top layer

and that selects the whole range of layers. If when you paste

your layers, they are in the wrong order, just alternate the order in

which you select them when copying (ie, select the top layer first and

then shift-click the bottom layer)
