This is beginning to intermediate level tutorial I've done in several seminars.. it's time to retire it, so I thought I'd post it up as a free tutorial.

The lesson covers the AE Motion Tracker, and how to use it to replace an object in the scene.

May I ask how long you prepare beforehand? You are so extremely well organized compared to other videos I've watched.

"Oh, ummm....yeah...uh...let me just hit Undo a few times. [frantic clicking in the background] Oh. mmm hmmm... yes, wellll... uh. There you go. See? This is the perfect example of when it doesn't work [hear shuffling paper] well... uh.. let's just improvise. Ok. Not exactly what I was planning. Ok. Well, anyway... mmm... you get the point. I hope you learned something from this tutorial. See you next time."

Well, my early tutorials were kind of like that. "Ummmm....., uhhhh ". That was my first habit to train myself out of. Really, if you F*** up, go have to go back and redo it. I suppose teaching college for a couple years helped, as well.

How I prepare? I tend to plan it out about a week before.. while jogging, while cooking, etc. I think about what the lesson is, what should be learned by the end of it, and problem areas that people might have. Then, I just record it the way I would explain it.

Anyway, glad you like it. This was sort of a technical test for some upcoming tutorials, like the expressions series, and some other stuff that is still in the planning stages.

I'm always open to ideas on tutorials, too.

Grey, you are so funny.

One idea that came in mind regarding the nice mouse circle hud thingy.
If you tracked it in AE, you could keyframe it to change color when you want to extra point something what you are doing, clicking, etc.

But it's just a idea. The tutorial is great, i loved it.

Great tutorial .

Gave me some new insights in combining 3d with video footage. I've tried to use the motiontracker build in 3d studio max, but that piece of software is a piece of sh*t tbh. This works faster and alot easier.
