From the Tao Te Ching:

"Things arise and she lets them come;
things disappear and she lets them go.
She has but doesn't possess,
acts but doesn't expect.
When her work is done, she forgets it.
That is why it lasts forever."
“Nobody is obliged to be a genius, but everybody is obliged to participate.”

I don't agree with the first part, cheating in tests has nothing to do with sharing ideas, but i agree very much with the rest.
Sharing ideas and experience is from my past experience the best way to get back a lot of other ideas and experience you would otherwise miss.
I can see where this can be a problem in a business environment, but even there it applies more often than not.

The test thing is definitely a bad analogy, but I thought the broader point it sought to make outweighed that part.

As has been said, its not the best analogy but the rest of it is very true. I was trying to remember where I had read it previously and then remembered it was in Paul Ardens book, 'Its not how good you are, its how good you want to be'. Another book I like of his is, 'What ever you think, think the opposite'.
