Leah Raeder used to be a regular around here. She was great about giving good feedback and offering tutorials and tips. From here blog post, http://www.leahraede...te/blog-closed/ , seems like she's moving on. Some words of encouragement would be nice.

This freaks me out a bit. I don't know the exact circumstances of Leah's career path change but looking inwardly I don't know what I'd do if I had to change my career/do something else. That doesn't seem to be the case with Leah; it appears she's taking her dreams of becoming an author head on and I wish her the best. I don't have any backup/alternative dreams and this simply reminds me of a personal fear of having to become a 'regular' person (i.e. someone whose career/job is not their passion). It's too terrible to think about, yet in today's economy seems at least somewhat possible.

Leah, I've never met you but from seeing your work and words I think you're a great artist and have the mettle to succeed in anything you put your mind to. If you ever get around to finishing the Kick the Bucket tutorial I've got 50 bones with your name on it!

Onward and Upward,

Oh, hey! I found this randomly while Googling myself (sounds so dirty, doesn't it?).

I'm still doing a little bit of freelance mograph to pay the bills, very low-key stuff, but yeah, things just were not working out for various reasons. Circumstances culminated in a chance to start over anew, and...

Honestly, as much as I enjoy motion design, it's just not "spiritually fulfilling" or whatever you want to call it. No offense to anyone in the field, because I know a lot of you put the same kind of blood and sweat into this that I did. But when I think of myself in 20 years, I don't think I'll give a shit about twirling shiny objects with HDRI reflections or slick camera moves. Mograph always felt more like product than art to me. I knew I wouldn't be happy if I did it forever. It was a job, not a vocation. Mousel hit it on the head.

But if it is art to you, then good. You're in the right field. And I wish you the best.

Pete, thanks for the shout-out. Was cool getting to know you, man. Hope things are going well for you.

That's really cool, congrats and hope your direction you're taking works out well for you.

I'm with Mousel on this one also, not sure what else I would be doing. But on the flipside, this industry can be fun, and generally the people that work in it are pretty cool and the workplace is usually an environment that is nice to be in. It's like when you walk into a fast food restaurant (shame on me, I know), it can really make you appreciate your job. It's just that sometimes sitting in front of a computer all day, you get trapped in the little world of shiny pixels and yearn for more in life. Catch 22 I guess.
