Echo - C4D Plugin Beta Testers Search
#1

I am looking for few beta testers (like 5-10), for a plugin mainly directed toward mograph folks, more precisely toward sound driven animation in Cinema 4D.
It's similar to Response if any oldtime C4D users remember it, but much more powerful, for AE users the basic idea resembles what SoundKeys.
So to cut the chase, what I am looking for:
- C4D users on release 11 or release 11.5, Windows / Mac,
- Basic knowledge of Xpresso,
- Moderate knowledge of animating and mograph module - some animations references,
- And of course some will and free time!
Here you can check the trailer, its quite old since the production got halted due the problems with code, now this is resolved and ready to get finished.

Keep in mind there are no keyframes.
And one more recent example I did for fun so you get more of an idea:

If you are interested send me an email or send a PM, I will get back to you by 10th of August when I get back from vacation, so we can kick this plugin out ASAP.
Thanks!

ivoschouten, thank you aswell =)
firemind,
alinspired, please email me with info as stated in first post, response was very good so far and it looks like everyone is on OSX, so now I really need a couple of Windows testers.

Do you have plans to build a UI so I wouldn't have to use Xpresso?

Xpresso is a UI!
Good luck with the project, look forward to seeing a complete plugin when its tested. Sounds great!

but about an hour ago I think I heard, I believe it was Rick Barrett, made a little script for the monkey today that allows to copy/paste soundkeys data straight into cinema.
Can somebody confirm this ?
Wouldn't complain if I could give your Echo a thorough try, Sandy.
Looks like you already got some useful functionality in there.

Not really, the basic setup would contain Echo node, linked to range mapper node, linked to anything you want to drive (be it effector, gravity, material color, position, rotation...), so its like 3 nodes to get you started, the beauty of xpresso is that it offers so much possibilities on top and since you can link most of the stuff there, it is the way to go =)
froj, thanks a lot, when it comes pre built stuff, will check if that can be done for sure, for a start some saved files will have to do.
douwe, I imagine that the pasted data comes in a form of keyframed null?
Cheers,

Yeah just something to drop into the content browser. Range mapper is pretty easy to plug into anything and drive it so don't worry people who have no clue about xpresso. I have very little but Something > Rangemapper > Drive something else is about as basic as you get with it

I was actually refering to what the monkey's talking about at 2:15-2:30 in this video.
("... which is like a one-click solution for soundkeys in cinema 4d").
Love to hear more about that, monkey / rick

That is true.
It's actually quite simple to copy/paste AE keys (generated by soundkeys or anything) into a text file and bring it into the C4D timeline via the ASCII Import function... it just takes some manual steps. You have to strip the headers and the footers and get rid of the first row of tabs. It only takes a minute, but it's tedious if you have several tracks. There is also some buggery with the ASCII Import. Several frames come in as floating point values (frame 3 might say frame 3 in the text file but it will import to C4D as Frame 2.99). That's not a deal breaker, just wonky... but it's a workflow I've been using for several years.
Rick's script is very fast and can be used for a host of other AE->C4D exchange if it were modified to do so, but the one he wrote for me was based on the specific data file I showed him. I'm not sure about the timeline for it's public availability, that's up to Rick and Maxon. Rick is a very talented and detail oriented programmer and he doesn't like to release things before they've been tested and proven to work in a variety of scenarios (which I completely understand). What I'm learning every day is just how awesome the integration of Python+C4D is. Rick did tell me that he thinks he can skip the writing data to a text file because python is capable of capturing data from the clipboard. Pretty sweet if you ask me.
Apologies for getting off topic. Just wanted to address the question.
I'm actually very excited to see what Echo can do and will be happy to contribute in any way I can.

Rick's script will be available within the next week for cineversity members.
He showcases it at about 13 minutes into August 4 episode of Cineversity Live.
works for any keyframe data from inside AE, so not just soundKeys.
