Am I shamelessly ripping off these guys? Or is it appropriation/inspiration.

Im not really a designer, its not my strong side.

Potentially my new logo (with some help from a friend):
Posted Image

inspired largely by:

Now my question is: Is this too much ripping it off?

Because i love the idea of triangles, as they are like tiny play buttons. And the logo, can both be a large play button, and its a V for Vozzz. And there are heaps of things I can do with animating triangles.

What do you guys think?
( I know legally im in the clear, but just from a community point of view)

Legally it is ok, but I would feel little bad as it has very similar kind of look. I like your old logo actually a lot. It is clean, simple and unique.

To be honest, the new one you trying to have doesn't look good. The color pallete is just not right.

I'm liking the pastel direction. Will you the top three triangles be complete? Right now, they look "partial" & that's a tad unsettling.
Can you get a little more contrast on the type? Maybe punch out the 5 as a fat slab serif? Right now, it's a bit to similar between all three type elements. The 5 looks like -almost- like an accidental stoked version.
Hope this wasn't to critical; I tried to back up each critique with a why.

Thnks xllr8. Not too critical at all. If anyone else wants to weigh in with critic go ahead.

Yeah im not completely happy with font yet either. Want something with more sharp angles.

as far as the triangles. Tried it with complete triangles, didnt like it. Kind like the unsettling feeling, makes it look less stock websitey =)

gotcha at the triangles. I think that's always a great starting point: having a distinct reason for a each element ( a reason you can verbalize). I like the thin stroke style for the "Ace" reads elegant & high end. "Studios" as it currently sits might pose readability issues, maybe it's the tracking? It could be fun to try a real "funky" sharp/jagged/custom style for the 5. That way you'd have classy from the thin font & "fresh/creative" from the wild 5 element.
Just random brainstorming ideas :). Have fun.

Unless you're copy/pasting or screen capturing someone else's work specifically, I wouldn't worry. Taking notes from a design style is not a problem in my eyes....are we suggesting that the originator has the copyright to triangles? I think not. Yours is vastly different, and unrecognisable when compared really. Only a slight hint of it here.

I only believe it's a violation of creativity if you're copying camera moves, animations and endboards from ONE piece, and transferring it.

You lot would have a sh*t fit if you saw the sheer amount of work I've had to steal in the broadcast industry.

"I've seen *this*, can we make it exactly the same". It happens every day....I REALLY struggle with this stuff though, and I pain myself to be original - I'm a bloody programme editor, I liked to deal with narrative and story and all that but it's twisted into motion graphics. I never asked for it, and as a result I find myself emulating to improve myself - only I have to do it in "anger" (ie: on the day mid-job) with only one shot at getting it right, so very little time for experimenting.

I swear you lot are gonna hate me before long lol
