Hi, new to After Effects. I'm more to graphic design and video editing, wish to explore motion graphics.
I'm trying to get this effect:

Currently my only solution is to manually distort the stroke/path for 3 to 4 frames and loop it, but I think there are other ways to achieve this effect?

Shape Layer --> Wiggle Path modifier.

sorry for being pretentious, 'wiggle path' actually works incredibly well. i'll shutup now...

If you use wiggle path with the posterize time effect it will give a bit more of that hand drawn feel.
